It's not just the work, it's the taking away of all the stuff too and they charge an arm and a leg for commercial garden waste. He was one of the cheaper quotes I got so it's clearly the going rate.£45 an hour…………thats not money well spent in my eyes

None of ours gave them (house built in 96), I always thought it was more of an older house thing.Stuck some radiator reflector foil on the back of wall of the radiators.
Its not commercial garden waste though is it……you can take it to you local dump for free or in our case upto 4 bags a week will be taken by the council for free as part of your council tax payments. It's not just the work, it's the taking away of all the stuff too and they charge an arm and a leg for commercial garden waste. as far as i can see you been ripped off for that amount of money just to cut grass and trima few bushes. Just my opinion of course
And thats what im saying….why pay someone to take it away, when you can bag it and take it yourself for free or get the council to take it for free……thats why £45 an hour is a rip off, its not rocket science is itOf course it’s commercial/business/trade waste. You as an individual can take your own waste, a business can’t, it’s trade waste and they have to pay. If you got rid of it yourself, sure you’d get away with it but that defeats the purpose of paying someone else to do it for you.
The ‘recycling centre’ staff where I am know all the traders in the local areas and they always have the card machine ready before they have got out their vehicles. I’m fairly sure they need a permit from the environment agency to move it from your house to the place of disposal.
Funnily enough I don't live near you and my council has different rules. And he didn't just cut the grass and trim some bushes. Its not commercial garden waste though is it……you can take it to you local dump for free or in our case upto 4 bags a week will be taken by the council for free as part of your council tax payments.

Finally retired the coat stand (required hangers) for coat hooks. I was inclined to make my own out of some reclaimed wood instead of this contiboard crap, but Homebase suckered me in with something that looked reasonable for about as much as a decent set of hooks cost on their own.
Yep! Even my brother who loves to help and is a dab hand at DIY has moved into the 'buy it if it's 80% there, then customise it' mindset. Makes sense tbf. The IT world is finally catching up to that fact tooIt's annoying isn't it, my mother in law wanted some planters making over the summer, but by the time i priced up wood it seemed to be cheaper to just buy them!
I'm liking the festive jelly fish
Nice! Love the radGetting close to completing the en-suite. Fitted the new radiator and a few more of the painted bits over the weekend.
