Dying Light 2 PC Tech Review

I was thinking that they purposely dropped raster lighting with RT off so that RT had a chance of at least being semi playable, I am assuming that with RT on it would be applying it over already rendered in things through rasterization so it makes sense to me to cull some effects with no RT.
The trade off is a very crappy looking base game without RT though.
Heck I even think Dyling Light 1 looks better than this without RT, the aesthetic works in the first game.

The game looked better in some ways when it was first announced. Little too much volumetric fog, but overall it was better

Ok the game looks crap in doors, at least in some places, when I swam over the water to the bit with the tube trains and went inside, looks crap, there are these bits with light shafts but no lights in some of the areas, looks bizzare, one bit looks like daylight shining through the grills above, but there was no gap to see daylight. Looking at performance figures, not sure why people think it's well optimised, even without ray tracing the frames are low for such graphics quality in 2022.

Outside though, best looking game ever.

I've not played it, I've watched a load of uploads from members though and watched the normal YouTube clips etc.. and I'm really not seeing it, even with RT and everything maxed out... maybe it's the art style i don't know.
maybe i need glasses :P game looks like Fallout 4 to me.

I'll for sure pick it up though when it's much cheaper and give it a go.

Holy crap. 32fps at 1440p if you turn RT on using a £1500 graphics card. 55fps is you use a £2000 card.

This game better look amazing.
You can get a 6900 XT for way less than £1500. It's more like a £1200 - £1300 card. The 2nd gen RT on the 3090 is only 23 FPS better Vs the 1st gen RT on the 6900 XT in your example.

On a 3080 Ti FE I'm playing at 3440x1440 with all RT enabled and get 80+fps if I turn vsync off. With DLSS turned off the game looks the same just frames are now around the 45-50fps mark, so DLSS is a good thing to have as visually it makes no difference, but you gain 40fps for free.

Technically, DLSS gives better than native IQ :p ;) :D

TPU also noted the same:

Speaking of image quality and performance, compared to native resolution, the DLSS performance uplift at 4K is an impressive improvement to the game. It almost doubles performance in Quality mode, and image quality is more detailed and stable than the TAA/FSR solution. DLSS deals with vegetation details even better than the native resolutions, including 1080p, and small details in the distance are rendered more correctly and complete. Speaking of FSR, with such a disappointing implementation (no Ultra Quality mode and incorrect sharpening filter values), this upscaling solution falls behind in quality more drastically than usual—only at 4K would it perhaps make sense for some users.

Game looks and plays great.

Which DLSS are you using? Feel like my 3080ti is underperforming with 40-70fps at 4k, DLSS Balanced.

DLSS Quality, all my settings are shown at the start of the vid  I have now turned off film grain though and left motion blur off too, sharpness upped to 55.

What doo you mean shocking? RTX low frames, a small apparent bump in frames can be a huge %, for example 1fps to 2fps is HUGE!!!! that's a 100% increase!!!!

Can also get a 3090 for way less than 2k, and it'll last longer than the bare-bones 6900XT. You're basically encouraging spending £1200 - £1300 on a card that can barely make 30FPS ;)

Yeah in these slanging matches they forget 6900xt is first gen RT whereas 3xxx cards are 2nd gen.
