Liquid Freezer ii 420 into Haf X ?

Trying to work out if a Arctic Liquid Freezer ii 420 :

will go into my old HAF X case (https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/legacy-products/cases/haf-x/) possibly with some easy modification.
If possible would like to keep the 2x 200mm fans at the top under the grill, so fit the radiator with fans inside.

Anyone know of this or something similar for this case. Am wanting to retire my old NH D14 to help cool 3900x and then 5900x/5950x whenever that’s possible.
If need to change case I’ll probably wait till I have time/motivation for full closed loop.

I got a haf x. the 360 AFII just fit at the top. Don't see the 420 doing it.

AFII 360 in. Used the MX4 paste that came with it. Fan config default (push through rad as pic above). Can curve in BIOS default except top 2x200mm fans pulling on rad other side = CPU based rather than system
Did a simple 10 mins of OCCT before and after...

Overall I would say I should have kept the Noctua. I was very careful with paste application and assembly of the new cooler. It's done now, I guess it 'looks' nice but no different to noise as the Noctua was pretty silent anyway.

Was my dream case, but budget won't allow it at the time.
Ended up with the Dacia of the cases:
the brittle plastic Thermaltake Armor. The idea was good, but boy, the side acrylic window would vibrate and actually amplify the fan noise. Would work great as a subwoofer box.

back to topic, the 360mm would be more than adequate, and easier to use o another built down the line or shift when you decide to sell.
I would only suggest 140mm based AIO if a 360mm won't fit. The gains from 420 over the 360 won't be as noticeable (if your CPU even pushes the limit where the extra capacity of the 420 would benefit your CPU) as going from 240 to 280.
140mm fans tend to be quieter, true, but the Arctic supplied fans, specially on your case which offers good airflow, won't need to run faster than 50-60%, at which point they're pretty quiet.

change to intake rather than exhaust. also are you sure you mounted it correctly?

Yep, very sure it was mounted correctly. Correct brackets in the positions so plate was exact middle of CPU.
I think with the large amount of airflow and space in my case it really helped the huge Noctua heat sink before it.
I’ll try turning things round with fans other side pulling air in & through. Have had enough of PC fiddling for the moment

I had the AF2 360 and 280 and found in my case at the time (Cosmos 2) the 280 cooled ~5c better. The 280 came out slightly ahead of my Noctuid D15 and the 360 about the same.

You should also do the average temp during a particularly time period, say over 30 min, to give a fuller idea as heatsinks and AIO's work quite differently in the way they dissipate heat.

I also had my fans as intakes sucking air in from the top as that kept the CPU cooler during gaming.

I not tested temp on CPU on OCCT yet. But my game benchmark run, about 12 programs and games 75minutes. Ryzen 5800X SCYTHE SCMG-5100 Mugen 5 CPU Cooler Rev.B max temp 95-93, freezer II 420 max temp 59-55. Intel 12700KF max temp 59-61 and i most interested about game performance. Sure Nhd14 is better than SCMG-5100. But gaming temp is huge different for my.. And BTW on czech republic is FE NH-U12A or NH-D15 more expensive than freezer II 420. Maybe one day i come back to AIR cooling, but now im happy;)

Before swapping the fans round it's worth playing with the profile in the BIOS. A few hundred rpm extra could make all the difference with negligible impact on sound.

BTW great case. I've still got mine in the loft. Can't bear to part with it.
