Did I get scammed by a plumber?

Not a bad price tbh. Expect to pay anywhere from 30-40 sn hour even upwards on labour. Any job could potentially lead in to "another job" once opened up etc. Definitely not been scammed. The only thing that could have been a tad cheaper is the fill valve as this is a DIY competent job.

Who the heck uses checkatrade? Lol!! Half the people on there are crooks and couldn't be a "builder, plumber, spark etc as long as they've got a hole in their ***. Problem is a lot of customers don't know a good job from a bad job these days. Always go on recommendations and see their work in person.

Thanks for all the replies alieviating my fears.

Well I've tried calling him today as I found a spare tile to do a replacement and he promised to come fix it for a cheap price and well...pretty sure my number has been blocked. Which sucks.

Yeah he's a plumber not a tiler, and will have a lot more lucrative plumbing jobs lined up than fixing a wall tile. I doubt you'll see him again.

Can't you just pop the tile on yourself? Few spacers, tile adhesive and grout. Just make sure any old adhesive is removed (as much as you can). Spread it on nice and thin to begin with then notch it, back butter the tile and pop it on.

sounds reasonable to me, i mean he's asked for £200 first and then something went wrong and charged an extra £70 aint nowt wrong with that in my eyes. j

I'm handy enough to do that, but by the time I buy all the supplies in order to do so, it's more expensive than getting him to do it for the price agreed. Theres a hole that needs to be cut in the tile too which I need to buy a bit for.

One of the jobs (putting a stop on the bidet) is now leaking too.

Is it a compression fitting or did he cap it off with a soldered cap?

Sounds perfectly reasonable for me, and I wouldn't expect a plumber to replace a tile, or an electrician to repair plasterboard etc. He's probably done you a favour by spotting a leak you didn't know you had.

Ok I will bite surely that job the man of the house could have done on his own ?

See...

I can and do service our cars, and my motorcycle, including brakes, I have even done some repairs, replaced ARB drop links on cars, fixed an issue with the throttle position sensor, diagnosed and changed failing sensors around etc, I have two trolley jacks lol - although something like a timing belt is over me admittedly.

I'll do electrics at home, 240v extractor fans, light fittings, switches, plug sockets, wiring, basically most of what you will come accross in a demoestic home.

Do my own decorating, although man I find that soooo borring.

I don't know the first thing about plumbing, literally wouldn't even know where to start. I learn as a go, and fortunately none of the plumbing in this house to date has ever gone wrong. But I reckon if my toilet broke and started leaking or whatever I would probably call a plumber.

Agree with this to be honest.

Prices seem very reasonable.

More work costs more money. Simples.

I'm pretty sure you can pick up some tile adhesive and grout for less then half the £40 you've agreed to pay for him to come back and finish off??

Tbf, many people have their car serviced by a garage but are easily competent of doing it, talking oil and filter change.

I'm one of them but the garage I use is a family friend so I get preferable rates, I buy my own parts and he'll generally have a look around the car to make sure nowt's going to cause me an issue down the line.
