Except Ukraine have western equipment and also drones supporting them. Russia doesn’t have the means to fight effectively at night. They haven’t taken a city yet so they may have to withdraw back or be targeted by superior ordinance

Yeah while they can, with overwhelming force, send plenty of armour into cities that's where a potential insurgency could get a bit awkward for them!

From things like the footage with the Russian soldier talking to the Ukrainian woman a fair few of them probably don't really want to be there to begin with. I think even places like Chechnya, though officially Russian territory/fellow Russian citizens, is still more "foreign" to Russians whereas Ukrainians are supposed to be their "cousins" etc..

If they are not successful in implementing regime change and end up with a protracted insurgency then that could be a total farce for them to deal with.

Pretty sure NVG equipment is limited to one per squad or something and I doubt it's the modern stuff.

Wow, what a bizarre thing in the modern combat world. I honestly never knew Russia was so behind with night fighting, having a whole big period of every day where you are at a disadvantage to your enemies seems like madness for someone like Russia. They should probably make that their first step when they come to modernizing their forces

Is that true? That Russia doesnt have the means to fight at night? That sounds like an enormous strategic faux pas for such a militarily strong nation to not have the ability to fight properly at night.
I would love to find the reference in this thread but that's impossible with this many posts in such a short period of time! Basically they don’t have the equipment to do it effectively. They attacked at first light which is also a sign.

Ukraine isn't a NATO member.
Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are NATO members, so if putin starts any crap with thier borders It would literally trigger world war 3.
Putin is well aware of this.
I feel bad for Ukraine.. They are basically being left to fend for themselves

Meanwhile, British troops were capable of doing it in WW2 without modern equipment.

That was not an attack on a NATO member but a dissadent in a NATO country. Big difference.
Your point is correct, though it wasn't even a dissident, it was a former Russian spy and traitor to Russia (and his daughter) so not remotely anything like 'an attack on a NATO member'. The death of a UK citizen was not intentional. Still, probably only Russia (GRU) would do it so blatantly, whereas the CIA, MI6 etc would be much more subtle.

I somehow doubt info like that is common knowledge, sounds more like usual Internet drivel from cod experts. :o

Specific claim like "one per squad" sounds like that, but the gist of it seems to be accurate - that they lack night vision equipment and so mostly aren't able to maneuver/fight well at night - thus the reason for the ground invasion being early morning post airstrikes/missile attacks.

This is his mansion, it is pretty massive, AFAIK the US Ambassadors' residence is also often cited as the second-largest though too:
