Why is everyone making a big deal about 3 or 4 tanks immobilised or a helicopter or two down. Don't Russia have 100s if not 1000s of the things?

I think these reports about Ukraine doing well are premature. Given the power of the Russian military, surely it's just a matter of time before Ukraine are seriously overwhelmed.

Yeh, apparently US intel says Russia have hardly moved the majority of their forces so far.

Depends what the ratios are vs what is in action and/or whether it is a few tanks here and there for no losses or a few tanks in total, etc. it doesn't take a huge number of losses to have a big demoralising effect or progressively render a unit combat significantly degraded in combat capability.

You may have to fight for those lines, how does that make you feel?

The same feeling that I get when people talk about their god. Utter hopelessness.

You dead, you gone. There is no afterlife, you gather wealth for someone else no matter how clever you feel you are

Depends on how operational they are I guess, plus very visible evidence of russian deaths in a war that Russians didn't really want is going to go down badly assuming it comes to their attention through all the misinformation/control systems.

I have noticed that the internet radios drop connections fast at the moment - I assume the number of DoS and connection attempts from cyberwarfare is taking its toll.

This had knock on effects as it has been used for Space parts hasn't it ?

Sheesh looks like I was maybe right about Putin's phase 1 being the expendables to probe defences

Doubt it - the airborne forces that took the airport certainly aren't, neither will the various armoured battle groups etc..

There might be *some* fresh conscripts involved too but they're not driving MBTs or self-propelled guns or Russin equivalent of MLRS etc..

It should be part of the price of living in a peaceful prosperous country

The price of living in a peaceful, prosperous country shouldn't come with the consequence of allowing fraudsters to operate so freely pilfering the public's money whenever they feel like it.

Nor should it come straight from the government charged with the security of the nation who has questionable loyalties from the outset.

Anyway, I'm not going to argue about this further and think in light of circumstances that military service should be considered seriously.

Would you mind expanding on this? Genuinely interested.

If Russia stays with in Ukraine what cause would the US have to fire on them? Don't misconstrue this, I'm not pro-Russia at all! Just curious to understand why this wouldn't just antagonise Russia and on what grounds the US would legitimise it?
"Potential threat the US assets in Poland, we had to take em out."

Don't forget, we were supposed to enforce a no fly zone in Libya and ended up bombing the Libyan army back to the stone age while the rebels sat around in their pickups waiting for us to win the war for them and give them the all clear to advance, we can legitimise pretty much anything our politicians can sell straight faced.

There seems to be some hideous atavistic tendency towards violence and repression deeply embedded in the Russian psyche, happily this seems to be absent in the many forward looking young Russians we see on the news media.
My Jewish grandmother left Russia in 1900 aged 12 travelling alone to the UK after the local Cossack thugs beheaded a relative of hers on the eve of his wedding.
Putin together with his political and security thugs are simply the modern iteration of their forebears. I hope that the progressive youth of Russia can eventually break free from their past.

It is quite a possibility albeit not all forces involved are as expendable. Still videos from Belarus, etc. of larger concentrations of forces moving to the border region which aren't part of current action.
