That lays firmly at Bildens feet, the debacle of the Afghanistan withdrawal gave Putin the balls to do this

Pfft come on, this has been choreographed since the soviets left the Kremlin and a ridiculous foreign policy that has persisted since then between both polities in the US as well as across Europe has been the principle culprit here.

The window of opportunity for getting fresh weapons into Ukraine must be pretty narrow now. Once Russia have full control of the border then they will just suffocate Ukraine. I do hope Ukraine has a big stash already.

There is over 500 miles border with Poland, Romania and Slovakia. I imagine Ukraine would want to fight to keep as much of that open as possible to receive aid and supplies. Wouldn't be surprised if they are helped/supported by black ops in important border areas. Otherwise Ukraine would effectively be completely cut off.

Completely separately and randomly I wonder what the Russians would think if Romania took over the south west Odesa oblast up until the estuary. There are only two valuable roads in from the east. If Russia wanted to take it back it would have to be by sea and air power.

I half suspect that the average western 18 year old would stand there arms outstretched saying come at me bro, thinking they are so good at Fortnite and Call of Duty that they will surely win a gunfight. Lets hope Ukrainian 18 year olds are made of sterner stuff :D
I could believe it :D

I don't doubt it, my other half is from Ukraine and the men out there are made of iron. They may not all be trained to fight but they are determined to protect their country from outside aggressors. Not a great example but we've all seen with the likes of ISIS and the Taliban what can be achieved with a rag tag group of men fighting with AK's.

edit: thanks Tombstone

Almost guaranteed there’ll be special forces crossing the border there.

So you mean you dont doubt it, rather than you doubt it ;)

BREAKING — We need to talk about a ceasefire with Russia, Ukrainian President Zelensky says in a video message

“We are not afraid to talk to Russia. We are not afraid to talk about security guarantees for our state. We are not afraid to talk about neutral status. But what security guarantees will we have? But which countries will give them?” Zelensky says in response to Russia offer. “We are left alone in defense of our state. Who is ready to fight with us? I don’t see it. Who is ready to guarantee Ukraine’s accession to Nato? Everyone is afraid” says Zelensky. “ I asked the 27 leaders of Europe whether Ukraine should be in Nato. I asked directly. They are all afraid. And we are not afraid”

Poor guy, I think he realises it's hopeless :(

Whats the point of life
To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women

So why now?

Presumably takes time get everything in place along with all the information war trying to destabilise the West, preparations for mitigating sanctions, gauging what's required as the West upgraded Ukraine's capacity to resist and such. I'd also say that he's gotten old and probably feels like he's running out of time to achieve his expansionist goals. I also think that the fact that it's pretty much 8 years to the day that his previous stooge was ousted is mildly symbolic.

But sure I'll give a little ground and say the mess in Afghanistan which whilst I believe was always going to be a mess probably also accelerated things, however it's a mess that was also shared with the previous admin in terms of planning.

This is why I was questioning what was actually being hit - for example that video as the BBC have shown is an older one:

https://www.tiktok.com/foryou?is_fr...7282#/@kiryshkkanew/video/7058574640993537282

I wasn't questioning that strikes were ongoing - only aware that a lot of hysteria was going on and reposting of older footage while people on Twitter who were in some of those locations at the time were saying it was quiet.

That seems to be flying a bit to close for comfort there over the black sea. Russians must be able to track it from that range.
It does have its transponder on so everyone can! You’re right it is very close. Looks like it is in the Romanian part.
