"mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, plans to take up arms to defend against Russia's invasion along with his brother, Wladimir."

I'm getting mental images of them punching tanks to death xD

Russia will have a colossal frontier with NATO at the end of this from the Black See to Baltic, including manning Bslarus and possibly up to the Artic circle. He has made real the very threat he claims to fear

The problem is that is precisely his goal.

For his rhetoric to make sense NATO must encompass it's entire Western flank.

Someone claiming to be from Rostov on one of the live streams saying they are monitoring the radio frequencies and all the talk is of resting and regrouping today and they aren't expecting any significant action.

(Would have thought military would have been using encryption or other methods of obfuscating their comms mind - though you can pick up a lot of military chatter as per this for instance https://twitter.com/te3ej/status/1496670582125039619).

Clearly plan A was a rapid light invasion to try and secure victory quickly. This has failed so tomorrow will be plan B. This is going to be heavier armour I expect. Let’s hope there’s lots of javelins and nlaws left.

One of my marginal thoughts about a potential invasion was that Turkey could have used it as cover to invade Armenia, but maybe letting Azerbaijan gobble up their mutually claimed territory between them was the price to pay for keeping Turkey away from their own imperialist desires.

I have the feeling the intention was as before to attempt to head shot leadership and infrastructure and then capitalise on that and for some reason that hasn't gone off but they are still continuing with trying to encircle the population and military concentrations as per the second part of that plan - maybe a classic case of everyone too afraid to tell those above them things haven't worked properly.

"Ukraine’s Air Force says Ukrainian Sukhoi Su-27 downed two Russian Su-30s in dogfight"

Major embarrassment for Russia if true xD (the Su-30 is an improved Su-27 so it was purely pilot skill)

Seen videos of multiple air losses but impossible to tell who or in several cases even what it is going down.

Can't link to it due to content but video of the aftermath of that armour getting hit while civilians stood watching nearby posted awhile back - doesn't look like it went well for the Russian forces involved - by the looks of it multiple knocked out light and medium armoured vehicles and multiple dead in Russian uniforms for the loss of 1 Ukrainian armoured vehicle. Just begs the question what Russia are playing at.

Don't know how to confirm this but there are alleged increases in radiation around Chernobyl.
There was a report that some shells had hit it. I was waiting for more confirmation before posting that. We’ll need to wait and see if that’s confirmed as it’s significant.

Sounds like massive explosions around Kyiv.

Seemed to be ground based possibly sabotage rather than shelling/missiles maybe.

EDIT: Looks like several explosions above Kyiv followed by trails from the sky - on closer look seems like air defences went active a few moments before.

More stuff ongoing - go back to 04:20 and there is outgoing, probably AD, at the right just above the skyline followed by explosions and trails a bit later, now sporadic missiles going overhead (that stream is now offline).

Why cant Ukraine be immediately signed into NATO and then it would get the full support needed?

What is stopping this from happening? I ask as i really dont know.

Maybe they are doing some scattered attacks to lul Ukraine into a false sense of security and then will take out the heads of Ukraine in the capitol.

Dunno what that was but something got hit hard in the sky above Kyiv - hopefully wasn't friendly fire. Looked like a fully armed aircraft of some kind got hit.

If you look at the reflection in the river that is burning debris coming down like something blew up aircraft wise.

EDIT: Video from another angle claims cruise missile attacks but don't think it is:

Looks like an AD interception.

Just hope it wasn't friendly fire from someone panicking/itchy trigger finger.

I see no logical reason for the leadership to actually be in Kyiv right now, but I suppose many of them might have felt the duty to stay.

NATO membership requires certain levels of military investment and capability, it's not something that can really be fast tracked.

The sad thing is Ukraine was on a membership roadmap and would have joined NATO prior to 2014 had they not elected a president who promised to cancel their application and instead strengthen ties with both Russia and the EU (this would be the one they ousted in 2014 after he refused to sign their EU deal).
