Maybe the oddity of it besides being a distraction for Ukraine is that the Kremlin underestimated the level of intelligence the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been getting from NATO which has allowed them enough space to manoeuvre.

I don't understand how this has gone for Russia.
If they have air superiority why are they not constantly flying sorties.
Why is there such a small use of cruise missiles and alike
Why are we seeing footage of relatively minute ammounts of loses.(thank god?) I mean a tank and an IiFV here and there?
It just all seems so misinformed.
This constant stream of unverified and unconfirmed raw Twitter is utterly bewildering.
I wonder if today will develop more conventionally?

Honestly I think a lot of this stems back to a very simple point if overly a generalisation - Russians tend to understand strength - with the current US they've got an entity they understand to be strong but it isn't pushing back the way they are used to and they don't know how to deal with it.

Would explain a lot of why they are being so cautious.

On Nolan Peterson's Twitter - audio from some defenders at Hostomel Airport - all British and American accents :s

Maybe there has been (or should be) a large number of 'volunteers' joining the Ukrainian defense from NATO - just like what happenend when Russia the rebels took the eastern parts a few years ago with all the 'little green men' turning up ....

Hopefully yes.
It just seems so rag-tag.

I hope Kyiv has well prepared defences and plans for preventing units getting cut off, etc. with managing the defence of the country as a whole if what is going around on Twitter now is correct as to Russian movements.

Ukraine reckons over 800 Russians dead or injured, 30+ tanks destroyed, 7 aircraft and 6 helicopters since Thursday.

Sounds about right given number Ukrainian deaths

common rule of thumb in war if you have an evenly matched enemy is that when you attack a defensive position you will need at least 10 attackers for every 1 defender

Air raid sirens :( something so ominous about that sound.
I think I read somewhere they have all been decommisioned here in the UK now, the sirens dated back to WW2? There was one a 5 minute walk from my house next to the second nearest primary school. I remember my mum telling me the siren went off (1940) when she was in the playground aged 5, instead of going to air raid shelter she ran all the way home with Nazi bombers flying across.

I know it doesn't really relate, but kinda something vivid my mum (RIP) told me.

Most of that civil defence infrastructure was dismantled around 1992 at the latest. There used to be one mounted on the roof of my old junior school which was tested periodically up until around that point.

Literally none of the things in that picture is what I'm referring to and I haven't even heard of some of them.

I don't care. Read it anyway, because you're clearly uninformed. It explains why Russia's actions are illegal and indefensible.

Also Facebook?

No, the source which was cited is EU Vs Disinfo, as you can clearly see at the bottom of the infographic, where you'll find links to the following articles:

Do you think America has nukes in Europe close/near/next to Russia?

Absolutely not. See for yourself:

No US or NATO bases on or near the Russian border. No US nukes on or near the Russian border. Fact. Care to try again?

Do you think that Russia are concerned about american nukes being so close?

No, because they're not. Also, how does invading Ukraine address the proximity of US nukes?

Do you that america would to stick nukes and/or an airbase in Ukraine if they join Nato?

Possibly an airbase. Definitely not nukes. Every location with nukes automatically becomes a nuke target.

Do you understand the importance of response time in defending ones own country from Nukes? What do you think the cuban missle crisis was about.

Yes I understand that. It still doesn't provide a valid rationale for the invasion of Ukraine. Just remind me of the last time the US threatened to nuke Russia? Are you actually pretending this is a serious and ongoing threat? Even if it was real, how does invading Ukraine solve that problem?

If russia tried to make its own defense pact and invited South american countries to join I gurantee that America would have boots on the ground in that country.

Nonsense. Russia had a defence pact during the Cold War (the Warsaw Pact, which you are possibly too young to remember) and the West did not invade any country within that pact.

There seems to be some hideous atavistic tendency towards violence and repression deeply embedded in the Russian psyche, happily this seems to be absent in the many forward looking young Russians we see on the news media.

Russia is a medieval nation with a medieval worldview. This is hardwired into the people; it's part of the national psyche. It's why they still don't have adequate legislation against domestic violence, which was partly decriminalised in 2017.

Imagine a 13th century peasant nation with a prescientific society which has successfully familiarised itself with the few scraps of 20th century technology it managed to beg, borrow, and steal from the West. That's 21st century Russia.

Waking up and turning on the news I see that the western leaders have gone into rhetoric overdrive telling us plebs how they stand with the Ukrainian people shoulder to shoulder whilst talking of applying meaningless sanctions, the Ukraine will be sacrificed because of the wests inaction in the past and now it is too late.

Aside from the UK and France I believe all the NATO nuclear weapons anywhere near Russia are mavity dropped bombs anyhow which need aircraft to fly into range to use so in this day and age are largely only useful for defensive purposes.

To be fair there were and continue to be plenty of great Russian thinkers, so it's not all that bad.

Just such a shame that the government's they accept haven't really moved too far past 1721.

This is probably just BS propaganda but RT news a few hours ago was reporting that Putin is willing to call off the attack of Ukraine says it will remain neutral and start the process of demilitarisation.

And now it's reporting that President Zelenskyy has said he is ready to surrender and negotiate

Because it would be WW3.

If Ukraine is put into NATO, tomorrow the British military will knocking on your door, give you a gun and ship you off to Eastern Europe. That's if Russia hasn't already nuked you in your sleep tonight

Probably right. Except imagine trying to enforce conscription on half of the wasters in this country :o
