Putin will back down now.
Still more authoritative than Liz Truss :)

Has this been easy though? Their nose has been bloodied by a much smaller force. Imagine if they didn't have air/armour and numerical superiority?
Yeah it does seem like there have been some unexpected problems for them, apparently not managing to take out as much of the air defense network as they had wanted to, losing control of that airport they helicoptered troops into, various groups appearing to fare rather badly against Ukrainian resistance / attacks on convoys etc, resulting in the reported losses.

If it was a more equal match up certainly doesn't seem like they'd have that easy a time of it...

At the same time it seems to me like there's just not enough publicly available information to work out precisely how well / badly it's going for them, and how effective they've been against Ukrainian forces. We hear the estimates of Russian losses, but how about Ukrainian losses, and the numbers you do see, are they accurate? Does Ukraine have a big plan to spring a trap on the Russians, or will they just continue advancing, take the whole country, and that will be that? Feels like there are just too many unknowns at the moment to really work out how well each side has done.

Edit: I think there has been a somewhat deliberate attempt by some commentators / OSInt people to not put things on social media that look bad for Ukraine, or might be useful for Russian propaganda - probably the right decision, but means that for those of us not actually spending all day going through the evidence like some of the OSInt people are it's harder to get a balanced view.

It will be over by Sunday, mark my words.

Russia may seize control and place a puppet government in place fairly quickly but whether they can keep control of the population is another matter.

The people of Ukraine have seen how things can be different away from Russian control, they won't give it all up easily.

Ukraine is huge, taking the capital will not win the war, not by a long shot.

Even if they do 'take' the country their will be an insurgency much like in Chechnya, and we all know how that went for Russia.

Don’t forget this won’t be a soft liberal western type occupation it will be the same brutal regimes you see in Russia so I can’t see resistance being that high in the general population!

re: the person who thought they were avoiding destroying bridges to preserve infrastructure, this brave marine (apparently) did manage to blow up a bridge and delay the Russian advance, sadly cost him his life:

Some good news - there was some footage of a Russian tank running over a car, the driver survived, seems to be in good condition (albeit trapped) and they were able to rescue him, car obviously crumpled:

More tweets re: the apparent Russian plans, there has been some footage of these (apparent) Russian saboteurs dressing in Ukrainian uniforms etc..

geez thats one lucky guy
