They didn't need to veto it if Russia did, this way they can save face with the west.

I wanted an explanation as I would've thought those comments were directed at me, I would've explained the source to someone who is not completely aware how news surfaces.

Russia vetoes the UN resolution. Just more proof that the UN is a complete and utter ******* joke.
Well the elites are very likely to be better equipped than the literal cannon fodder that make up most of the Russian army.
One of the armchair generals will be sacked that's for sure.

It is a bit odd, you would think something would be written in the charter about that.
The purpose of UN permanent veto power is to make sure great powers do no clash. You do not understand the purpose of the UN if you think it useless. It did exactly what it was created to do.
The Veto countries didn’t think so when they agreed it…. or when they use the veto.
It's a necessary consequence of having the UN at all.
Getting rid of the UN will just be accepting the rules-based order is dead and then China/Russia will have won the ideology war.
