Just to be clear, the CCM doesn't "ban" cluster bombs, it only bans a few very specific cluster bombs based on sub-munition size/weight and fusing system. In fact the UK still uses quite a few "unbanned" cluster munitions as the ones we use fall juuuuust outside the scope of the CCM. So for example we still use the M270 MLRS rocket system which drops almost 8,000 sub-munitions per vehicle and no-one complains.

The reason we still justify the use of certain cluster munitions is that their design makes them the most effective weapon for killing large numbers of infantry in the open or destroying large numbers of soft-skin vehicles.

Most of the 'cluster bomb' attention has been overtaken by the swarming suicide drones or long distance swarming bomblets.

Future drone bomblets, that once on the ground, proceed to spend their time actively searching out infantry in bunkers, tanks etc.

And that is Ukraine’s best hope. The longer Ukraine holds out and the greater the casualties suffered by Russian forces, more greater the chance that internal pressure will force Putin to withdrawal at least to the borders of the disputed areas in East Ukraine.

This won’t happen. The longer the Ukraine holds out, the more likely that the hardcore nut jobs will be sent in. See Chechnya for example.

I don't think so tbh, the overall plan would have been put under the mad hatter's nose and his generals will be feeding back as expected at least for the next couples of weeks.

You don't invade without good plans.

But Kiev will fall and it will be a war fought in the hills with civilians used as bargaining chips at some point.

Kyiv might well fall but their plans have faced multiple setbacks, they're trying yet another airborne assault on the airfield south of Kyiv at the moment:

Russian airborne forces are having a really, really bad time and sending aging transport aircraft into contested airspace is rather a desperate move as they're clearly way more vulnerable, the most basic of MANPADS can take them down.

That’s the bit of kit I used to operate, the Iraqis used to call it the black rain during the first gulf war(it used to peal apart mid flight to drop the bomblets) , but we switched to GMLRS(Precision fire) for less collateral damage in 2008

You're completely unaware of how well the invasion of Iraq was planned and executed, you're suggesting a failure to occupy and pacify an insurgency in Iraq is a reflection of the inability of the US military to fight and win a war against a professional fighting force, again you're uninformed and ignorant.
you need to step away from the Hollywood propaganda, the only thing the us military are good for is ordering rocket strikes on their allies and drone bombing civilians.

Probably why Russia needs troops from Chechnya and has asked Kazakstan also.

This is something I haven't understood. Just like we saw Russian tanks in single file crossing bridges into Ukraine with no resistance. We see photos of truck convoys supposedly supplies being sent from Poland into Ukraine. Why isn't Russia targeting these? It has men in the Forrests around Lviv.

Well maybe they are thinking soon all these supplies will be ours...keep on sending them.

I doubt it. No one is going to turn Putin's head now. He will just start using a lot more rockets and artillery I reckon.

Would be a good opportunity for China to take back some disputed territory from Russia. Whatever happens Russia is going to be reliant on China, China is going to exploit this.

I can see "swift transactions for land as part of our special relationship" casually dropped in..

'easily' and yet it still took the US/UK over a month to get to Bagdad, Russia is closing in on Kyev less than 72 hours in and will take it very soon unfortunately.

Kyiv is only a couple hours drive from the Belarus border, Baghdad is half way around the world.

I think the difference is probably important.
