Big difference there in that Iraq was run by a dictator the majority of the Iraqi population wanted to get rid of whereas Ukraine is a democracy and the majority don't want their government overthrown.

The guff intelligence re: WMDs was bad, they exaggerated it to make the case for war when really they just wanted regime change and having to commit troops there for so long (ideally should have re-drawn borders into Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish areas and had UN manned green lines or something) but they genuinely believed he likely still had them, there was an extensive search of them once in country and Saddam himself certainly did have them in the past and was quite happy to play the game of acting like he still had them too while officially denying it.

I dont believe for a second that the majority of Iraqis wanted to be bombarded and then invaded by Americans.

Exactly, it has actually committed most of its combat-ready troops though, the mistake posters like that are making is just looking at numbers on paper... Ukraine had hundreds of thousands of troops on paper too in 2014, very few were in any position to engage in combat in the East.

That's changed after years of preparing, training from the West etc.. and now Ukraine has various well-trained battle groups it can deploy. Russia doesn't have 1 million troops it can simply deploy in battle groups, it has 1 million troops that can maybe man a border post somewhere in the far east... in terms of combat-ready battle groups, most of those are deployed to Ukraine or surrounding areas already.

That's why Putin has had to reach out the Chechens, Kazakstan (denied) etc..

it would be absolutely hilarious if after what they have been through at the hands of the fruitloop, the Chechens turned on them and attacked from the rear

I don't think anyone wants to be bombed, most Iraqis weren't bombed though! Most Iraqis certainly did want Saddam removed though, whether your naivety allows you to believe such a thing or not.

The BBC have just broadcast live from a site where many civilians are gathered to make petrol bombs. It's both incredibly moving to see folk resorting to this, and incredibly disturbing that the BBC think broadcasting a live location (albeit not specifically identified) of resistance activity is a good idea. They've also educated me about a useful ingredient.
UKRAINIAN STATE SECURITY: Russia distributed gas masks to its troops
I do fear that the longer this struggle goes on, the more likely something dramatic to spread terror and quell resistance is deployed. And I also worry about an (unlikely) retreat with an "accidental strike by Ukrainian forces" against Chernobyl, as payback to Ukraine and Europe.

There is no happy ending here, is there. I sit here watching my poor old Mum disappearing with dementia and some days I think she's the lucky one.
