Don't think they would stand any chances against a well stacked NATO force. Only thing is, if we keep letting them have practice they might end up being competent when we need to actually stand up to them. They are ironing out their issues in Syria and now Ukraine.

They're not ironing out their issues, they're stuffing their soldiers into a meat grinder and their tanks/APCs into a damn volcano. If this continues at this rate the Russian army will be done for decades. We won't have to worry about them invading anyone else.

Not a simple question, but to answer:
  • If they launched nuclear missiles at NATO targets in the US it would be picked up and a counterattack almost certainly launched.
  • If they launched nuclear missiles at NATO targets in Europe it would be picked up but would hit before a counterattack could be launched, in which case a response would be launched by the non-European NATO members and whatever is left of European NATO members.
  • If they launched nuclear missiles at Ukraine it would be picked up and a counterattack almost certainly not launched.
  • If they used nuclear bombs or artillery shells launched missiles against Ukraine it would not be picked up (until detonation obviously) and a counterattack almost certainly not launched.

Points 3 & 4 aren't as clear cut as that as a nuclear explosion wouldn't stop it's destruction at Ukraine's border. So I guess it would depend whether any collateral damage extended into neighbouring countries, some of which being NATO members.

Putin Looks like a fool. A man swallowed by his own hype, only to realise his army is poor, their equipment antiquated and his Generals have been lying to him. He is losing (badly), and becoming more dangerous in his fury.

Would this be the first time that they have properly come up against it?

They've come up against manpads and infantry antitank equipment in Syria and Afghanistan, a lot of the issue though is in Syria and Afghanistan they used indiscriminate artillery to destroy mostly everything, this has been very different compared to usual doctrine, their ISR has failed/been nonexistant and their precision strikes have been largerly ineffective so they're just trying to sledgehammer their way into places that are very well defended

Any nerds can explain what this means ????

Not really sure why peeps are going on about nukes so much. One level was raised, in a self made war where NATO and US are not engaged. Literally all Russia has to do is stop and return home and it goes away. It is just crazy.

They completely lost the initiative and are digging their own hole.

Fighting with 1 arm behind his back won't be easy.

I'm sure in places like Syria where indiscriminate shelling/bombing is more palatable to him things are much easier.

Have Russia just seriously underestimated how good the western anti air/ anti tank stuff is or something?

Would this be the first time that they have properly come up against it?
It's crazy isn't it.

As far as underestimating how good the western anti-tank stuff is, they know, so perhaps they underestimated how many we had given them? /shrug.

As far as underestimating how good the western anti-stuff is, we've hardly given them any, almost all the Russian air losses so far have been from Soviet era SAMs and fighters, and there's no way they underestimated them. Perhaps they underestimated how many Ukraine had refurbished since 2014 but that's basically public knowledge. Perhaps they overestimated their own ability to locate/destroy them but had to go in anyway as they were on the clock /shrug.

Ukraine are taking the war to Russia/Belarus with IT attacks on their banks.

Airspace closed in the whole EU for any Russian aircraft owned, or used in any way to do with anyone Russian, according to new sanctions coming out now,
