Its got bugger all to do with security concerns.

It's Putin wanting to play empire.

Simples.
How did you come to that conclusion. Walk me through your line of thinking.

Ah you mean how russia signed some paper work promising not to invade Ukraine in exchange for thier nukes..

So.... explain to me your theory again.
After this agreement (Dated April 2008) Georgia invaded August 2008, Crimea Annexed in 2014

NATO is a tool to expand America's influence.

That's a part of it

If it was really defensive then they should have boots on the ground in Ukraine staring the Russians in the face before Russia invaded.

Of course they wouldn't, since Ukraine isn't in NATO

You are right that they did not invade Russia but the threat is always there. For example I have gun under the table. I may not be pointing it towards you but you know it is there. How would that change how you act when I start making requests from you? Knowing that at any moment I may find an excuse to pull it out and shoot you.

But if you've never had any history of preemptively shooting people you are negotiating with, in the whole time you've owned this gun, then that's not a concern based on anything tangible is it.

Two Super powers should never have borders touching each other whether directly or by proxy countries. Why do you think China keeps North Korea around.

You cant really account for how geopolitics and geography collide sometimes...

looks like the Russian Economy is about to be thrown off the cliff, imho they must be pushed so far as to react. If we nuke their economy then what do they have to lose?

Russia has been protesting for a long time and learnt the lesson that if it is not in writing it doesn't count.

Of course it doesn't count if it's not in writing. That's like saying a mortgage doesn't count unless it's in writing. Duh!

But in this case it wasn't even an official offer. Baker’s offer wasmade on his own initiative in a personal capacity rather than an official one, was not followed up by Gorbachev, was ruled out by the White House when he returned to the US and told them what he'd told Gorbachev, and was never raised again by either side during negotiations, and was not part of any subsequent agreement.

That existed before they became superpower? Or did they invade countries and bring each other into contention?
Well, if Russia take over Ukraine they’ve just automatically put their borders on yet more Nato countries. And let’s not be naive, it will be Moscow in charge of Ukraine with whatever puppet government they put in.

Russia signed the documents and agreed to be bound by them.

A bit like Brexit.. we also have a putinesque leadership in the tory party.. I can't think that people will draw parallels before the next election.
