The only trouble there is that Russia is not a superpower. It may have been in the mid 20th century to thought that it was, but it ain't no more. It was the bogey under the bed, now it is just able to fight one country and not lose too badly.

This isn't Russia at full strength and TBH it is madness - 200K soldiers and the equipment they've thrown at it is barely enough to siege one city in a country like Ukraine never mind subdue the whole country - realistically 250-300K frontline and near a million in support is the minimum required.

looks like the Russian Economy is about to be thrown off the cliff, imho they must be pushed so far as to react. If we nuke their economy then what do they have to lose?

What good can come of pushing Russia/Putin into the corner like this?
Seems everyone's now wrapped up in the 'stick it to Russia by any means' hype, which I did initially find very heartwarming, but I'm worried it's going too far tbh.

Yes but the USSR of old reputedly would have had the million men on your front lawn before sunrise the next day. Not no more.

well ofcourse its going too far because the motion is to get rid of Putin, not Russia. And as fas as i can see we will turn the anti-putin russians to finally side with him because of hunger. Thats a failure and sealing armageddon

Think the next we see of Putin is going to be telling - if he is still banging out the "you made me do it" rhetoric we should be very wary.

NATO is basically America, they run the show.

The US had held quite a financial hold over from the WW2 days. In the 2000s that hold reduced. The EU and lack of conflict meant that people's priorities weren't on standing against large aggressive nations but instead on making as much money as possible.

In 2018 NATO's security council woke up to China being more of a threat through financial investment within the political and military structures of other countries. Since then Russia has been pushed down the list of "superpowers" and for Putin's ego and face within his organisation, that was negative.

Add the erosion of the former soviet block with "upstarts" such as Ukraine finding new gas reserves and working with Shell and the EU to monetise it. Putin spotted a chance to make a quick win and push himself back into the limelight.

So Douglas MacGregor thinks we should lift all sanctions, remove all support from Ukraine and let Putin do as he pleases. This is the same man who advised Trump to pull all troops out of Germany. Is he working for the US or Russia? Considering he’s on the board of West Point id be worried about that.

I see Trump, Xi and Putin would then carve up the world into their imperial kingdoms, until they got bored and millions would be send to fight to relieve the boredom.

It's funny IIRC it was Nixon who had the Communist witch-hunts..

I think that the UK badgering the EU helped to make it more effective this time, particularly Germany.

BTW your word putinesque made me think of puttanesca, something else entirely.

The American right are just traitorous scum at this point.

The alt-right white nationalist movement see more in common with the authoritarian regimes like Russia than our own free democracies.

Wasn't he also one of the advisers to trump that agreed to take US troops out of Afganistan? This man has done a lot of damage to the US.
