Well it’s not entirely the action of senile, mentally deranged person is it. Even we carpet bombed indiscriminately during WW2, the Yanks used agent orange in Vietnam.

It was only what - a week or two ago, when western leaders were appealing to Russia not to invade and to pull their troops back. The response at the time was “it’s hysteria by the west” “it’s fabrication” “it’s all misinformation” “there are no troops or invasion force”

Yet 7 days later here we are, who the hell would be willing to trust anything Putin says right now? These are his actions and the Ukrainians must fight with all they have.

The issue with lies is that you can't trust the individual. Only a nuclear threat cannot be lessened and so Putin instantly has made a deep pit for the Russians in a vain attempt to drive the Russian population to him and against the west. He's demonising the west or attempting to - however social media is seeping through the cracks.

Putin backed himself into the corner, the west and Ukraine are not at fault for any of this. The only option is a full withdraw from the Ukraine and money given somehow to rebuild the crap he has destroyed. That should be the only option on the table nothing else.
 
I hope they find some common ground in the talks today but I don't think it likely.
It will probably be:

Ukraine - Russia to leave Ukraine immediately and pay for the damage they caused.
Russia - Ukraine to surrender immediately and their government to resign.

I can't see any middle ground there.

the US dropped tens of thousands of tons of napalm and many hundreds of thousands of tons of bombs in vietnam with many cities and villages being described as 100% destroyed
 
This invasion certainly puts paid to the theory that Russia is a military superpower in any way other than nukes and sheer manpower. Their troops seem poorly trained, led and equipped, logistics a shambles, morale awful. The comparison with Western forces in Iraq/Afghanistan is night and day.

Don’t you think it’s up to them to decide whether they should fight for their country or not? They know the risks, most people aren’t completely stupid.
Not that it’s possible but if Russia invaded here I’d like to think I wouldn’t show them my belly. A lot of European cities were flattened by the Germans because they resisted, was it the defenders fault?
I don’t like the connotation that if the Ukrainians fight then it will cause their death and destruction. No, it’s the invading force doing that.
 
I see Ben Wallace has tried to reassure the public by saying that Putin is using the nuclear deterrent as a distraction from what’s going on in Ukraine, and he is merely reminding the world he has a nuclear deterrent rather than actually planning to use it offensively, and we should always remember the west is also a nuclear superpower.

I pray he is correct in his assessment
