If I was writing up my views on this.

I think putin is nearing his end. And maybe he knows it. And wants at least one "win" over the west. I hope its one win.
He'll do anything to secure that win. And right now that win is annexing some or all Of Ukraine.

Maybe he will stop there. Maybe he won't.

Even bringing Up nukes is clearing a sign he doesn't care about his country or anyone in it.
A dangerous prospect.
There is no logic to this war.

So if you have someone that seems that only winning or getting one over the west makes him tick, him not getting anything from this is my biggest concern.

If this is what causes nuclear war, so be it. I don't blame the west for how this has gone this week. Its fairly united. Its actually more than I expected to be done over the weekend. We've done all we can (in my eyes) and it hasn't gone too far.

But ideally I'd like to avoid nuclear war.

It would be great if someone in the kremlin would take putins place seeing this isn't going to end well. But I suspect he's engineered his inner circle so that doesn't happen.

How does this all pan out?
I think putin needs to feel some sense of a win or all bets are off.

Russia haven't done that so far because they would rightly be concerned that the rest of the world would pile in on them and China would have no choice but to completely distance themselves from Russia as well. There would also be no coming back from that. Currently they can back-track and the sanctions will be removed reasonably quickly I imagine. Commit atrocities against the civilian population and thats it.

I believe the Russian nukes may have had something to do with the world not piling in.

I don't recall there being a good option anywhere about dealing with someone that controls over a thousand nuclear weapons and if they open an invasion by implying nuclear war it's not a sign they're fully on their perch.

Backing it up would be doing as Putin says and not getting involved with his land grab. Yet here we are with the Ruble turning into dust and Ukraine becoming a massive NATO and EU proxy.
It sets up a precedent if Russia is allowed to do whatever it wants just by pointing at its nukes whilst demanding things. Nukes are defensive tool used as a deterrent not something to be used offensively.

I'm not sure the world would react like that unfortunately. Dowie put up a picture of what they did to Grozny in '95 and that's inside their territory!

The only negotiation is how Russia is going to leave, its pathetic tbh, don't let fud over play the Russians hand, they are well and truly stuffed and have no way out. Nukes will not happen, the only reason that convoy isn't toast is to give them a chance to turn around.

Imo it's all over at this stage just needs the Russians to decide what they would prefer.

Well no, that's not how NATO works?

Just because the USA is a member of NATO, if they go to war as America and not under the banner of NATO like, for example in Iraq, and get shot that that doesn't trigger a NATO response does it. You're just being silly now with your analogies to try and stretch a non-existamt point.

Now if America was invaded by an external force, then that would trigger a NATO response, since it's a defensive organisation.
So its not an issue unless the coutry America declared War on decides it wants revenge?

Any peace is a compromise. So both parties have to give something. My suggestion say "ok, you can have those two areas we were fighting over since 2014 and that you called seperate. We will then allow anyone who wants to move there to do that, and anyone else who wants to leave to leave.

You can then claim you have protected those 2 regions and go home.

It's a hateful answer, but perhaps creating a separate "nation" like in Vietnam/N Korea is the way ahead. Until the whole of Russia eventually collapses

Currently they can back-track and the sanctions will be removed reasonably quickly I imagine.

That's the thing though. Is Putin going to backtrack now? Essentially, admitting to the world that he's a puppet to the west and the east and whenever he steps out of line, they pull a few strings and the nation he's spent at least 20 years building could collapse within weeks.

Currently find myself on a ship with a guy from eastern Ukraine, who’s pro-Russian, and some of the stuff he had to say, considering I only met him today was….interesting. Apparently there are no Russian troops in Ukraine, and this is the Ukraine government bombing themselves, as apparently that’s what Nazis do according to him….

I mean, considering that Putin’s literally gone on TV and directly stated that Russia’s carrying out a “Special Military Operation” in Ukraine, then I honestly don’t know how somebody’s world view can be so severely warped.

I believe the Russian nukes may have had something to do with the world not piling in.

Of course they do but you can't let Russia effective slaughter the people of another country. The world is hoping that either Ukraine wins and pushes Russia out or that Russia takes Ukraine and we can then say "we are doing the right thing" by just sanctioning Russia and isolating them in the hope they leave again. We couldn't do any more at that stage because of the risk of a bloodbath if we attacked Ukraine to remove an in place Russian force.

Some people in this thread, makes me wonder, man up ffs. Bullies have to be dealt with ruthlessly no quarter given, total humiliation.
