For those who don't fully understand what those 70 aircraft represent, this is their current MiG-29/Su-25 inventories:

Bulgaria (MiG-29) - 16
Bulgaria (Su-25) - 14
Poland (MiG-29) - 28
Slovakia (MiG-29) - 12

They're literally giving Ukraine all of them to defend their countries, Bulgaria and Slovakia don't even have any other planes, they're currently awaiting delivery of the new F-16s they bought so they could begin phasing out their MiGs over the rest of the decade...

I guess they figure they'd be like spitting in the wind if Russia came after them next and they're in Nato anyway so why not.

Well obviously still unacceptable posture towards Greece, though i'll mitigate by saying I was worried about them siding with Russia, I'm still concerned about Erdogan in general.

the next war in europe will be fought in the aegean. Erdogan rhetoric is very similar to putin's, demilitarization, buffer zones etc.

This will presumably be backed up with other nations providing equivalent air defence protection in the meanwhile.

If thats true, thats huge and a game changer, they will make short work of those miles of Russian armor rolling in.

Why hasn’t Russia got air superiority by now, doesn’t make sense, you would have thought first thing you do in a modern war is remove air power otherwise those rows of Russians are toast. X

I wonder if there's some ex-military volunteers that know how to operate Patriot systems that could very well be heading into the likes of Lviv to protect refugees and supply routes?

My brother lives close to main (pretty much only) military airport in Slovakia and said it became an American air base in last couple of days.

I'm guessing (armchair enabled) that they need their planes for NATO and don't want strategic holes they can't fill since their newer generation fighters are either very limited or non-existent.

surely giving equipment like this is the straw that broke the camels back and cause wider conflict with Europe? And since we are seeing that Russia’s military wouldn’t be able to handle that since it’s struggling with Ukraine, surely this is a massive risk we provoke a bad (nuclear) response.
