Why hasn’t Russia got air superiority by now, doesn’t make sense, you would have thought first thing you do in a modern war is remove air power otherwise those rows of Russians are toast. X

Ukraine has modern SAMS able to take down any air cover alongside all the stuff weve been sending over. Plus reports suggesting their actual working force of aircraft/combat capable is *significantly* lower than the total planes they have. They have choppers but fighter jets in short supply.

I'm guessing there are quite a few mothballed MiGs lying around that they're quite happy to get rid of. Also this conflict is really showing off how ineffective tanks can be compared to air support.
TBH It's more a case of showing how ineffective tanks are without air support/defence. I.E the Russian air force can't keep the Ukrainian ground attack planes off them and the columns seem to be lacking AA vehicles to stop incoming missiles from drones. The former is due to Ukraine's SAMs and air force still being in the game but the latter is simply bizarre.

Ukraine has spent eight years refurbishing this SAMs so have hundreds of missiles ready to down enemy aircraft, but then the Russians watched that happen for those eight years so knew it. They took out a lot with cruise missile strikes on the first day but a lot either missed or hit where the SAMs had been not were they now were so perhaps their intel was old.

The whole thing is bizarre, it's like Russia aren't even trying, but that makes zero sense...

surely giving equipment like this is the straw that broke the camels back and cause wider conflict with Europe? And since we are seeing that Russia’s military wouldn’t be able to handle that since it’s struggling with Ukraine, surely this is a massive risk we provoke a nuclear reaction???

this thread is causing me unreal anxiety yet I can’t stop following it…. It’s making me physically feel sick and I just can’t turn away. Others in here must feel the same at times.

Settle petal

yeah me too, especially when i have my 15 months old daughter next to me. I also dont understand why does NATO have to send in planes, piloted by ukranians, they are losing, why the escalation?

You dont fight to be honorable or fair in war. Escalation of force is necessary and required.

I'm guessing (armchair enabled) that they need their planes for NATO and don't want strategic holes they can't fill since their newer generation fighters are either very limited or non-existent.

Despite all the posturing, I can't believe they would really consider getting into a conflict with NATO. Then again, establishing air superiority really should have been the priority so god knows what they're thinking. When we heard about Ukraine purchasing more drones from Turkey I figured they'd end up as some very expensive wreckage, yet they're still wreaking havoc on the Russians.

I think your absolutely right, they don’t want to show their hand to NATO, what they have and haven’t got

They are not losing, they're just advancing slowly. If they were losing Ukraine would be pushing them back towards the border.

i disagree, even a slow advance is losing. Losing to militia and a defiant people. They are humiliated. Let the russian citizens deal with them now that the body bags will start pouring their country.

I like to think the top people know a lot more than us. They might have good intel about the current situation via the likes of NATO military intelligence, the CIA etc, and may think this could be the right time to finally get him gone

From what ive read, the mobile anti-air theyve been sending is so old/out of date they cant see/find the drones to shoot down.

Yeah, I would imagine the CIA and the like will be well enough dialled into the Russian military top command that they are confident that even if Putin ordered the use of nuclear weapons they wouldn’t act on it.
