Yeah much of their war chest will now be ‘frozen’ and the stuff they have in Rubels will be pretty much useless.

Cut off the rest of their cash by stopping gas/oil exports and their economy is toast!

this will take years. Don't forget that Russia is relatively self sufficient. It's a net exporter of basic foods, gas and oil.

The trading value of the rouble isn't that important if they go full loco.

Ukraine removing more road blocks to help join the fight. No longer require Visa's to go there and help.
I'm genuinely curious to know what sort of numbers of people have been trying to get there?

On a slightly lighter note, we were "reminded" today that as serving personnel, we are not allowed to get involved:cry:

The satellite images of the large Russian convoy though is extremely concerning. If the Ukraine defences are creaking a bit this could knock the door down, sadly.

Didn't it take like 3 weeks to invade Iraq? Took the capital in a week? My memory is fading a bit, but it was certainly on those sort of timescales.

I would imagine the West is hoping for hyperinflation and the break down in public behaviour in Russia.

This, he can level the cities and call it a victory when in reality he thought they would roll in on day one, everyone would surrender and he could replace the government and have a puppet state like Belarus.
Thats what it was all about, fear.

Yeah, he will have planned for this though. They've been planning this for years.

Why hasn’t Russia got air superiority by now, doesn’t make sense, you would have thought first thing you do in a modern war is remove air power otherwise those rows of Russians are toast. X

Maybe because they only have single digit numbers of their top line aircraft fully combat operational...

But this was taken on Monday before noon in Ukraine. So about 10am UK time. Where is it now 12 hours later ???

I would hope that Russia learn from this that even facing, a smaller force, that is almost surrounded, thats natural defensive lines were by passed by transiting through friendly states, with a huge air power advantage and land, sea and air deployment options - that they have still struggled.

A fight against NATO wouldn't end well for them - can you imagine what Nato would do to a 3mile long column of vehicles sat around in the open.

If Putin is worried about NATO - well he should be, based on his armys performance thus far. I still expect Russia to win this, but mot the walkover they were expecting.

surely giving equipment like this is the straw that broke the camels back and cause wider conflict with Europe? And since we are seeing that Russia’s military wouldn’t be able to handle that since it’s struggling with Ukraine, surely this is a massive risk we provoke a bad (nuclear) response.
I don't think anything major will happen but if it comes to it people like you and I have no control over the situation so don't worry about it.

Okay I got a plan, check this out!

WE nuke the polar icecaps, then we tell Greta Putin did it, then send her to Ukraine with a big stick. Job done.

That's almost as good as solving the energy crisis by renationalising the power companies and putting a generator on Thatcher spinning in her grave.

And how does one export when every country is rejecting your ships and planes?

It's only the moron Germans who have emboldened this dependency on russian gas. I bet cuadrilla are buzzing if they haven't totally shut shop.

Peeps why is the reason this war has started? Can anyone tell me? I have watched a video from vlad in this big sort of press conference not sure when it took place where he is saying that in the 90s it was promised that the alliance wouldn’t expand and there was 5 waves of expansion. It was not written he said. Can’t post here because it was on FB.

My point is they don't have to export much. What do they need foreign trade for? iphones? Bananas?

Whilst in the long run, yes they do. In the short term they can survive with no great hardship and did do relatively for decades within short living memory.

Putin, a man from the Cold War era, who’s territory went as far as Berlin in WW2, wants the good old days back.
