I am no prepper but have taken all our camping gear out of the attic and sorted it all out. If the worst were to happen and we had to make a run to Scotland we could get on the road quite quickly.

I think personally I would be buggered regardless though as there are plenty of air bases around here so we would be a prime target for nuking.

Yeah, I've been thinking about getting the battery-powered radio out of storage...

Guys if nukes start going off no where will be safe.

All infrastructure, hospitals, power, communications. It would all be gone. There would be a nuclear winter.

If you were one of the unlucky to survive I doubt many would last long.

Cute.

Yeah its a bit nuts to be honest although I’m seeing plenty of it online elsewhere too

I really don't think most people have the vaguest clue about how devastating Russian nuclear strategic weapons are or they'd keep their mouths closed about ever fighting Russian troops in a direct conflict, we'd be looking at the vast majority of Europe and North America wiped out along with all of Russia. When I say wiped out it would be 60-90%+ dead in the first year.

The excuses they're using to justify this is deranged, I watched a clip earlier on RT in which they were using the excuse there doing this to save the lives of Russian speaking Ukrainians, meanwhile, in the real world the Russian speaking Ukrainians are making Molotov cocktails. The Russian ambassador to the UN yesterday stood in front of the world and said they're not bombing Citys and its all Ukrainian propaganda, everyone in that room would have seen the videos and images of bombs dropping on citys, dead civilians destroyed homes and unexploded munitions.
I would love to see the percentage of Russians that support this war, unfortunately, we can't trust any information coming out of Russia.
Look at this clown Dmitry Suslov, he's an academic as well

Nah mate, apparently we’re meant to be calling the bluff of one of the worlds most powerful men.

How are your Russian lessons going?

I understand it's difficult but that woman shouting at Boris didn't really help matters.

WW3 hasn't "already started" - a measured response is critical. Where is NATO? Ukraine aren't a member of NATO... daft question.

Public opinion is that we should bring on World War 3?

??????

What am I even reading in this thread

Public opinion maybe or maybe not but a definite willing to do something more than sanctions.

Time will tell I suppose but from my perspective there is a real underlying mood here worldwide to do something more than sanctions. Given the stand in the EU parliament today and the oncoming battle in Kyiv things might just change .

given all the talk of the worst-case scenario, what's the best case scenario?

if we assume that the russian people unite against putin, getting rid of him and his cronies, then make peace with ukraine (potentially with settlement including reperations for the damage caused so far).

how quickly and thoroughly would sanctions be lifted (ie what would stay in place?) and how quickly would that result in bringing the lives of the average russian citizen back to normal?

should we be worried that even if that all pans out, that the best outcome is to just reset the clock with whoever replaces putin ending up just as bad in time?

i'm presuming a lot of what we've done so far can and would be reversed, but how effectively is that being communicated to the average russian citizen so they don't flip the other way?

I am no expert so probably talking **** however if the best case happened, which is surely the Russian people turn against Putin and his regime and end him themselves in a coup - preferably one of his own guards............ so long as whoever took over pulled out completely and unconditionally i would imagine sanctions would be lifted immediately would they not? The average Russian person on the street is not to blame for this and i don't think anyone (ok not many people) want to punish all of Russia.... and ultimately the sanctions hurt us all.
Obviously going forward Russia regardless would be expected to help significantly with any clean up and rebuilding.

that would be my imagined best case...... I am not sure if Putin is inherently evil or just insane (the 2 are not necessarily mutually exclusive) but i personally do not see anything other than a disaster unless someone deposes him permanently.... and if anyone other than a Russian (or Ukrainian) does it then it could be WW3 - it would seem it is ok for Putin to greenlight murdering on uk soil but i dont see Russia accepting it if we returned the favour)

If compromises are made and he gets some more land, then ultimately it just kicks the can down the road for it to happen again, much like 2014.

As for could his replacement be worse...... it is possible i guess, however Putin does seem to be a next level tyrant. It would be nice to think there are more balanced people who could take over, even if ultimately they are still no lover of the Wests ideals.

but again, this is just my musing, i am no expert so feel free to say i am talking crap.

the scenes on bbc of the kids are really distressing. i know war sucks no matter what, but attacking civilian buildings is surely a war crime which cant go unanswered.
