Yeah but people get offended when you point out their rock bottom their IQs so they start being children

No need to take us back to Brexit, we know the voting demographics ;)

Historically I have found those who like to make out they somehow have a super IQ and resort to that as some kind of superiority are often those most lacking themselves.
See Donald J Trump

Should be hide behind a red line he'll never ever cross, as an excuse not to do more?

Yes if it saves the MAJORITY from war. That is a tougher choice than pulling a trigger. Russia is doomed from an economic point of view for years. Inside that fence is going to be **** and eventually Putin will go things will soften up again and so the cycle begins again. Your lucky your in the West as it is.

Why not, plenty of scope in-between.

there is no scope in between. Russia knows it would lose a conventional war with NATO, if anything their performance in Ukraine reinforces that. Ukraine have been pumped full of NATO hardware and they are inflicting significant damage to Russia's advances. Now imagine if that was a full NATO force with full air superiority. There would be no conventional war, Russia would have 2 choices, 1. Accpet defeat, 2. Turn as many NATO cities to glass as possible before ending up glass themselves.

Putin will select 2 everytime, and then the only thing that would prevent it would be him getting overthrown by his generals, if they happen to grow a pair before it's too late. I am not sure that NATO want to test how fast Russian puppet generals can grow testicles.

I think the same can be levelled at most countries at some point in their history, the UK used cluster bombs in the Falklands for example (though they werent "banned" at that time of course) , not sure that any major country has an entirely clean history. The hope is that as time goes by countries evolve and progress.

FWIW I believe only some cluster munitions are banned
Particularly those that spray mines etc that do not detonate on impact but seed the ground for the future being what they set out to stop

If there's a time for a genuine hero within putins inner circle to step up and end this, the time would be now.

Just think what Russia could enjoy if someone progressive was at the helm

Russia is weak, it’s only its nuclear arsenal which makes it appear strong, in conventional warfare NATO without the USA would be more than a match for them, the USA alone would wipe the floor with them

It is the nuclear arsenal that is the reason they are immensely strong. Otherwise the whole world would be pummeling Russia back to their borders and Putin would have been gone years ago.

Conventional warfare is a thing of the past and will never happen again between two nuclear nations.

Unfortunately the consequence of doing more are worse than what's going on right now.

I don't know if you can say that,

If Putin succeeds and manages to get the whole of Ukraine and they fold after utter carnage, what next? who's next?

I'm just wondering if you'll still feel that way when the dust settles, and it's the most bloody awful mess.

Well of course at the time of the Falklands none were banned , but like I say, the hope is that a country develops and evolves over time to no longer use such weapons.

Saying we are "Twiddling our thumbs" is incorrect.
Disagree. Sending small arms, antitank weapons etc won't stop what's coming in the next week. Way too little too late. That's all we can do. Sanctions might speed russian populous to revolt faster...or hate us more ..
Allowing the fox to have one chicken so that it doesnt rampage and kill all the chickens in the coop?

It's absolutely horrific but yes.
We lose round 1. We come back ready.
Russia will be bogged down in Ukraine for months,...years?
Hopefully Putin is destroyed by his own citizens.

Just think how glorious an assassination would be.

The fighter jets were obviously a step too far and Putin was about to go deep.

There was always going to be a line before boots on the ground for him. His initial comments mentioned any interference at all from the West so he's already caved a little. We're pretty much already fighting them with every other means possible.

you keep saying that like you are still playing command and conquer. It's pretty clear if he starts shelling NATO countries or invading them then it's all over for all of us. Ukraine will likely end up geting flatened and then they will get bartered away to keep peace. It will end up like Korea, West Urkaine will acceed into the EU and NATO, East Ukraine will end up like East Germany and there will be a massive military presence either side of that border.

The price of peace here will be high and paid for in the blood of Ukrainians. That might be a ****** deal, but you can almost be assured that it's a deal the rest of the world is probably ok with.

Totally agreed. Providing jets is obviously looked on as tantamount to going in ourselves.

Have to say I think it's the right decision. I think supplying defensive arms is one thing but aircraft is probably the straw that broke the camels back.

The economic sanctions are only just starting to bite, Russia will implode soon without the risk of Nato getting involved

Agreed. That is one step too far.

But people say Putin wont attack a Nato nation so why does it matter?
