Russia have the S-550 missile system which is apparently capable of taking out satellites, ICBMs, and nullifying nuclear weapons. The project was fast-tracked by Putin but there's some ambiguity over whether it's been deployed yet or not.

This is where I think Putin might have an edge over the West and why he is being so brazen now, at this time of all times. He's had 8 years since Crimea and him having confidence in his fire power seems more likely a reason than failing health.

Before Russia invaded I thought the outcome would be determined purely by their missiles. It's disappointing that the EU are no longer supplying fighter jets, but even so Russia's missiles are basically kamikaze fighter jets and they have thousands of them.

It all comes down to the Ukranian's fighting spirit and how they can wage an asymmetric war.

They can’t even shoot down some drones… plus they have been hit by ballistic missiles at established bases during this conflict

Woman on Sky News Live just said " Russia could hit Nuclear Power Plants and cause radiation in the wind against Nato "

Say what?!?!

Same woman who earlier said there should be a no fly zone, and we are already in a World War 3

Need to stop watching Murdoch media.

Meanwhile we have pretty much nothing to defend against ICBMs because increasing spending on defence wasn't seen as a good way to spend money...

Interesting points, although how would that apply to nations like Iran/Iraq? They once used to be pretty wealthy/affluent etc and hugely modernized (or at least fast heading that way). Take a look at this for example: https://www.businessinsider.com/amazing-pictures-of-peaceful-iraq-2014-6?r=US&IR=T

There have been a number of really cool docus posted on the forums in the past about Iraq before the Islamic revolution as well, in many senses Iraq was more free and "west" than the actual western world before things changed. So these places were hardly under constant conflict for the last 100 years as you say!

Also, a bit of humour amongst all the talk of nukes wiping out parts of the UK (honestly....).

Just read that no jets are going to be provided; thats a shame it feels like they could have made a difference

They did shoot down the Cosmos 1408 satellite last year so they have the capability.

It might come down to cost factor and ability to replenish stock. Putin has already shown a disregard for his own men and probably puts strategic objectives ahead of that.

If we had anything that could shoot down nukes, I’d be surprised if we was even told about it until it was actually used. Wouldn’t want to give the ruskies a heads up.

`
how many do they have to intercept the torrent of ICBM's? say UK, France and USA rains hell down on them they cant intercept 1200 icbm's , they dont have 1200+ S550 missiles for a start. Nobody can win a nuclear war, he is an imbecile if he does.

I don't think that will stop ICBMs dropping from orbit and even if it did we only have 6 Type-45s. They would need to be all over the place.
Yes it will. It was demoed against 2 US medium range ballistic missiles in a test. I’m just quoting stuff from Wikipedia about PAAMS. It’s what is in the public domain at least.
