Just had an interesting convo with a mate in the RAF.
His comments on why Russia dont have air superiority boil down to:
1) Their ancient mobile AA systems currently deployed can not differentiate between friendly and hostile planes, only the latest tech of which they have very little to commit/risk.
2) They arent willing to risk the newer stuff because they have so little of it, and the Ukrainian modern SAMs and all the infantry carried AA equipment is still able to take their new stuff down.
3) They dont have any airfield near enough to provide continuous support quickly enough.

So you not see that Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, are borders with Russia.
There's roughly 70 million people in the UK. I wouldn't mind a free home in London too. So 240k homes doesn't go round very far.
I hope you don't have kids as I'm sure social services would have something to say about keeping children outside in tents. If it were just about tents what makes our tents any better than a polish tent. The point is about these people making it to safety, not having free choice to relocate to wherever they wish.
If we don't follow some practicalities we'd end up like some **** hole Lebanon.

You and others turned my post above into Tory bashing, again I don't care what party it is, I have no interest in political parties or politics and they are all as bad as each other when it suits them, this is politics to me. What I used was examples of people in our current government and how they are behaving and representing us all in the UK, personally I am not happy to see this behaviour from our government, I know it is horrible times and very hard on them and they are trying their best but other countries this time have lead the way to doing the right things for the people (refugees) of Ukraine, I don't give a damn about their sanctions and blaa blaa that has zero effect on the people being targetted by a war criminal. What I am saying is we should be doing more to help the people escaping war, I don't know what else we can do but if we can't get them to UK to their families here to help them is there nothing more we can do from UK to support countries that have the refugees in their country?
Honestly I'm just disgusted what I am seeing been done to innocent people and seeing families and children being destroyed by mad men and sat here wondering what else can we all do to help and what else can we all do to stop this mess from spreading to other countries, it maybe Ukraine today but what about tomorrow or next week ?

That seemed to be the point the guy on the news was making. The sanctions didn’t cover oil&gas - however everything is so fast that perhaps this is nolonger the case. Will have to see - also I know there reason for the UK blocking port ships is trying to block the Orkney crude oil tanker loading up and going back to Russia. How the payment is done - perhaps a bank account in a friendly country?

So far 600,000 refugees have crossed out of Ukraine, that's 500,000 migrants that will need temporarily housing in Europe until this is over, that number will go up as this continues and will indeed reach millions but again it's temporary as Putin cannot win this war he's started. It may drag on for a long time but eventually no matter how many they kill and how much damage they do the Russians will have to give up and go home just like they did in Afghanistan. When that happens the people who left Ukraine will mostly return to their homeland to rebuild, yes many will choose to stay in other European nations but the UK will not be their first choice due to the culture/language differences and again most will return once Russia is routed.

We definitely should be making more of an effort though - and especially I think we need to be looking at making proportional aid contributions to countries which are taking refugees in directly especially but not limited to Poland.
