Bunch of responses of it would be pointless, but I am not so sure. We could still have some basics in place.

I mean I assume there will be many places that will be outside of the blast zones and will survive that, but then be stuck inside for long periods of time due to the fallout.

Yeah, I'm glad I don't live next door to these fellas. I mean what would be the point of looting them?

Lol. You guys
you need Seeds if you do survive, lots of them but the only thing your growing might be mushrooms if the sun gets blocked out, then it will be too cold for them anyway.

you probably need to dig a hole about 10ft deep in your garden and set up a bunker, I'm guessing you line the walls with lead that you can steal from your neighbours rooves.

I doubt any of it is practical, if you live in the very north of Scotland you might avoid being in any kill zones

I wonder how much conflict could have been avoided if the Azov Batallion were discharged from the Ukrainian National Guard and the OSCE investigated the mass graves properly? I can't find any information about a formal procedure here.

Don't need to line it with lead - only precaution you need really is that there is a 90 degree bend in any access corridor/tunnel and in most cases only basic air filtration is actually required.

Given Putins rhetoric isn’t it strange that these Ukrainians are pouring over the border into Poland rather than into the loving arms of their Russian neighbours

As interesting as it is to see what is going on - not a fan of some of these news organisation's live cameras which show a bit of what is going on in Kyiv military wise - be better if they panned up/away a bit more towards the skyline even though not as interesting.

Has anyone here taken any precautions and started to make preparations for an eventuality if nuclear war was to take place? Had a quick look and did not see a thread for it discussing what kind of things to buy etc.

It's a bit late now tbh... I mean sure you can get supplies etc.. but meh... if you're near a military base or large UK city then prospects are grim.

I was actually genuinely tempted to move to the Channel Islands or Isle of Man during the pandemic, (was getting frustrated at how it was being handled + figured those places would be better places to be in should a much more deadly variant emerge) I guess those places + Scottish Highlands would also be ideal for surviving a nuclear strike (or at least as ideal as possible within the UK). Probably be patches of survivors in random sparsely populated areas across the country + maybe the tail end of Cornwall too.

Essentially if you had a sailing boat/yacht some communications and you lived there then it could be survivable, if it happens and cities in Europe, North America and Russia get flattened then you hop in your boat and head elsewhere.... see if Australia or New Zealand are stull standing etc..

That's assuming the debate about "nuclear winter" vs "nuclear autumn" turns out to be like Ferguson's covid modeling on the nuclear winter side, because if not we're mostly all going to starve in the event of a massive exchange of weapons and what remains of humanity could easily be sent back several centuries in terms of development.

If nuclear war happens, then there's nothing that you can buy at B&Q that'll help you.
You could buy the following at B&Q which would help:

* Wood to board up windows
* White paint to help reflect the flash
* Wood to strengthen your shelter under the stairs (usually the safest part of a house)
* Bucket and sand to put out fires
* Bucket to hold water for drinking
* Shovels and crowbar to help extract yourself from a house that has collapsed around you
etc
