Guess you didn't see the images of the old couple shot up in their car, or the footage of the guy recording his & his families + dogs deaths on the road somewhere presumably trying to escape, or the footage of the guys in a van trying to get around a lorry the Russians had placed in the middle of the road to obstruct it and started shooting at them when they tried to drive around it, or the footage of people going about their business but getting in the way of the rockets. I get what you're trying to say but even in the first few days some of what I've just mentioned happened and it's only getting worse and will continue to get worse in the coming weeks & months.

Their patience for the people is apparently wearing thin

Or the Indian student killed whilst trying to get food. Yes they could be doing far worse but they are invading a country and killing civilians including children, whether accidental or not, they should not be there, Ukraine was no risk to Russia.

Let us pray that Putin is realising he is killing his own kin for no real good reason, let us hope he realises he has and can win this battle, but will realise it is pointless and if he sets of a war, he cannot win, nobody wins.

While there has sadly been civilian deaths, it’s not like Russia are sending round death squads to eliminate everyone. They’re letting ordinary Ukrainians come and go as they please and in some cases, giving warnings as to where they’re targeting in order to minimise casualties.

I’m not trying to make out the Russians as angels, but they’re not like Isis or the Taliban.

You have to remember that most of territory they're fighting in, bar Kyiv is ethnically and quite culturally Russian and mostly Russian speaking. I doubt they've be quite so considerate the closer they get to the Dnieper river.

Bloody hell Iv'e heard it all now.

They are indiscrimanately slaughtering civilians, 2000 now and counting with cruise missiles and arty. They arent sending death squads because the ukrainians are better than them and wiping them out.

This war has shown one thing, the Russians are pants at ground war, their airforce can't get air superiority their army is full of your poor young conscripts, their convoys are easy pickings, poorly maintaned and unreliable.

Their provisions, rations and fuel have more or less run out and the morale is in the gutter.

Nato must be laughing their arse off at the incompetance of this superpower who have taken to indiscrimate destruction of the population because thats all they are good at.

it's just as well they have a nuclear deterent becaus it's the only thing holding nato back.

The video I posted earlier really explains what they are trying to achieve. They just want NATO not expand any more and for Russia be recognised as a super power once again. Ukraine was too strategic for them to lose to the west. I could see Ukraine divided with a new west side of Ukraine that is managed from Lviv. This side would joint NAM and would always stay neutral. The rest of Ukraine would be part of Russia. That is of this conflict keeps going. Ukraine may be able to get themselves to a position where they commit to never join EU or NATO, join NAM instead and have an election that would out a more Russia favouring government there. It was also interesting the video explained why China is a more important focus and Russia would be useful for the West in future.
They are going to win eventually the Ukrainians are just putting off the inevitable as for being a super power no they are a great power and will never be recognised as a super power again they don't have the economic might.

Your initial concern is going to be surviving the blast of the bomb - this is mostly down to how close to the detonation you are. If, like me, you are quite close to a primary target, you are probably not going to survive the blast - in which case you are better off trying to anticipate action and get the hell out of dodge 24 hours before it happens. This obviously doesn't work for a surprise first strike but if Putin drops a nuke on Ukraine that's a good sign to bug out.

If he nukes Ukraine and only Ukraine there isn't even any guarantee that it will spread into a wider conflict - NATO won't open fire on Russian first and Ukraine isn't a part of NATO so there would be no retaliatory strike. Having said that, I wouldn't take any chances and would get the family on the first boat out of England as it would only take a small percentage of the Russian nuclear arsenal to turn our entire country into radiated glass.

Where to go is the next question - Ireland for me probably as I have family there and hopefully their neutral status and almost negligible armed forces would give Putin other more important targets to aim for. Or Iceland. If you can get south of the equator, that's a good call too.

I'm finding it amusing after your intro to surviving a nuclear attack, that if the UK gets blown to bits your first port of call is Ireland. Who are pretty much next door to us (Dublin is less than 300 miles from London). If the UK gets taken out with a nuclear attack, you can bet Ireland will be just as badly hit / suffer the most from the after effects.

The biggest problems besides Dublin possibly being levelled would be the consequences of warlordism across the UK if a rump state didn't survive along with the issue of energy and food production as supply chains evaporate.

Would probably prefer the Highlands though, lots of deer and remote.

You must have missed this bit of my post "hopefully their neutral status and almost negligible armed forces would give Putin other more important targets to aim for."

It may be a vain hope, but it's infinitely better than sitting at home almost at the epicentre of a first strike blast.

seeing in YT interviews on the street, apparently the average russian says no to the war (expected)
The average Russian is just like us, want to get on witheir lives.

Sadly they are kept in the dark about all this and a lot of them will have friends and family in Ukrain.

The information they get is second hand and the state TV constantly spews out nonsence and lies that they will believe.

Say anything and it's off to the gullag, I feel for the ordinary russian as they to have to pay a price for Putins war, but at least it's not death from above.

My family are all from Cork - very far from Dublin and the prevailing South Westerly winds would take the fallout to Carlisle.... :)
