The EU is a unified block, so it's a singular entity. It shows we could do more but having a government party heavily funded by Russia......

So does every sanction materially affect every EU country and are you suggesting we should add sanctions that have no relevance to the UK just to bump the numbers up?

Exactly. So it paints the UK in a worse picture than the reality.

No, it paints the UK under a realistic comparison. These aren't individual countries, but the sanctions dictatated by the EU.. This UK has some good points in this conflict , notably the delivery of defensive weapons before the invasion, but really since everything kicked the UK has not pushed its weight, and often done the minimum lr wlrse, especially wrt refugees. The santions and assests freeze where the Tories were generous enough to let their donors transfer their assests long before restrictions came in to effect is frankly embarrassing.

God the Tory bashing is nauseating

From what I have checked, the latest trident missiles have much lower yield now, but this is because they are also more accurate e.g. they can auto detonate when they have detected they have overshot the target and its still in kill range. I think the higher yield was to compensate for lower accuracy.

I watched this talk with John Anderson and Victor Davis Hanson which I thought was interesting.

It's going to be a huge challenge for the world if after a short amount of time, say a month after the invasion, and Putin ends up "winning".

If he does succeed then other non-NATO countries will be cowering. Putin's popularity will shoot up in Russia like back in 2014.

Unfortunately despite the sanctions, and hatred for him in the west, and whatever despicable war crimes he might commit, he still has a lot to gain on the world stage.

What does he have to gain on the world stage?

There are countries probably looking in admiration at this invasion e.g. China, Iran, N Korea.

There is talk of the West burying Russia financially for decades but I think that is doubtful. Plenty of countries willing to buy from Russia still, including any of the advanced weapons he could use in this war.

And then there are leaders like Macron who still think they can talk sense into Putin, like it's just some phase that he's going through.

At the moment it's just over a week in and everyone is focused on this, but if Putin gets it done and dusted in a month, then two years into the future I think the landscape would be very different.
