Given the economic sanctions that have collectively been placed on Russia I’m sure China will have second thoughts about that .

I would also be much harder for them militarily since they don't share a land border. They would have to destroy Taiwan's navy and air force first before even attempting to make a large scale seaborn invasion.

The US & the UK signed the Budapest memorandum promising security assurances against threats or force against territorial integrity or political independence of Ukraine, twice now they have both failed to honour that agreement when Russia annexed Crimea and now with the full on invasion, they are legally bound to come to Ukraine's aid NATO or not.
They hide behind the "NATO is a defensive force" excuse while completely ignoring that they should be helping Ukraine as individual countries and not as the NATO alliance, they're just weak leaders scared to act

Sorry for the delayed answer - we should impose actual immediate sanctions rather than just talk. Doing at least as much if not more than the EU would match Mr Johnson’s rhetoric. He’s been hiding the truth in plain sight again whilst trying to be Churchill. His speechwriters much be exhausted.

He's pointing out that promises were made to Ukraine which have not been upheld. WW3 or not, Ukraine was supposed to be protected from just this event.

Agreed but in the future if Ukraine do manage to hold off and rebuild then it will be a big problem.

That goes back to my original post. The other baltic states are members of NATO. It's a red line that Putin is unlikely to want to cross as the other members are bound to collectively defend them.

Putin saw Ukraine as a soft target, thought he could waltz in with large numbers of badly equipped troops and in a couple of days the Government would quit and let him install a puppet regime.

I think that's all the more reason they're now keen to join nato.

It's pretty clear that if you're not part of NATO then you're essentially on your own.

Wow, Zelensky has had a right meltdown tonight. Apparently all future deaths are our fault now for showing weakness.

It's a horrible situation, but how can the west risk getting involved militarily at this stage?

If they did, Russia might just go scorched earth resulting in far more Ukrainian deaths . Plus obviously the risk of it turning into an all put world war.

You missed my point. If the US and UK have already ignored a treaty once. Will they do it again? NATO has never been tested like this before. Will the big countries in NATO risk ww3 because little Latvia has been invaded?

The answer is none of us really know until someone tries.
