What's wrong with France? Why is France so awful that thousands of people seem to want to leave it to come to the UK? Often through incredibly dangerous or criminal means?

The only thing missing, which is not actually missing, it is well known, is that the UK are picking and choosing who to let in.

Pretty sure that's not how it works. In fact the European commission have a legal definition of safe country and that isn't it.

So far 1mil have reportedly fled - if this continues many more will; if we and others do not begin moving people away from the border countries, an even bigger catastrophe could occur.

There are also reports of gangs trying to exploit woman - we could prevent some of the chaos if we were proactive.

What concerns do you have with accepting refugees from Ukraine?

Let me dumb it down for you all. Neither the 1951 Refugee Convention nor EU law requires a refugee to claim asylum in one country rather than another. There is no rule requiring refugees to claim in the first safe country in which they arrive.

You might also want to look up the Dublin regulations and how they no longer apply since Brexit. You won, get over it.

The ones who do try to get to the UK are most likely doing so for a very good reason, such as having family ties here in the UK. So my first assumption is "must have family here" when a Ukrainian refugee tries to get all the way to the UK, bypassing most of Europe. It certainly isn't for the warm welcome they will get, or the weather for **** sake.

Is this a fact? If they applied for asylum they would be approved without doubt. What appears to have happened is they applied for the fast visa which was declined as they are not eligible but have not applied for asylum.

God help us all in UK if something like this happens to us and we need the help of other countries in this way. The rest of the world will remind us all with the same rules we set on others in need.:(

Sad really and many here defending it in these forums like 24 hour bots with the same cut and paste reply we are world leading blaa blaa, yes we are world leading with a government out to make us all look like a cold hearted country of people. World leading :cry: give it rest really, world leading look at how we treat our own in need and the unemployed, even the EU had something to say about it before we had brexit at how poor the government is with helping the poor and unemployed in UK a country that is expensive to live in but has the lowest benefits of all of western europe.

EU law explicitly covers the requirements of a safe country and nowhere in that legal definition does it say the refugee gets to determine it to their whims.

Art. 38 of Directive 2013/32/EU (Recast Asylum Procedures Directive) covers it.

How is it hard to understand.

Get them into this country, if that is where they want to be.

Sort paperwork later.

THE VERY LAST thing anyone fleeing Ukraine now, should be worried about is paperwork and stuff.

Not when food clothes and roof is more important.
 
Nothing like an immigration issue to weed out the absolute scum that use this forum. Surprised the owners of ocuk want anything to do with this place.
