No, I don't think they did say that, the quora article suggests that though I think it's referring to some particular response system in the event of an attack. Putin probably can order a tactical strike (obvs some lower-level commanders involved in that too but meh) but the strategic deterrent seems to require some additional sign-off - they can be launched but no single person can press the red button so to speak.

sorry but it really isn't, it's just more muh Tories nonsense and involves trying to pick up and amplify some salacious stories which are trivial in comparison to the rather obvious direction of effort here by the current UK government... I'm not a Tory voter myself and I realise everyone has their pet peeves but sometimes these myopic viewpoints get a bit ridiculous.

That is part of it but in many cases they've also lacked for the heavier end of the kit within their role.

Not clear what you mean by this given they're airborne forces, they've arguably got heavier equipment than our own airborne forces - what is it they're lacking organically here?

That's an incredibly upsetting picture. Whole family with suitcases trying to find safety, gone. Putin needs putting down. Pictures like that will get around in Ukraine, good luck trying to surrender if you're a Russian soldier.

The irony of Russia becoming a Dollar economy isn't lost on most.

They could have course go to Rupee's since Modi was allowing currency trade but IIRC the Rupee is a closed currency.

Personally speaking, I'd be more concerned with the humanitarian issues happening now than military threats (outside of Ukraine obv.) that may never materialise.

Hard to tell from the limited coverage we see....but I'm having a hard time seeing how Putin holds onto Ukraine.

Even if he encircles Kyiv and kills/captures Zelensky....what then? If the Ukrainians switch to guerilla tactics, attack their supply lines at night, hit and run murder the Russian troops, anti-Russian mobs turn violent.....there's still over 40 million people in the country that want them out and have blood to repay.
