I hope all these altruistic people gifting their country's planes, arsenal and ammunition to The Ukraine are thinking of whether they are leaving themselves short should / when Mr. Putin start to really throw his weight about?
Looks like Poland is taking on some F35's from the US, so provided they arrive on time the MiG-29s they are sending to Ukraine are more a case of clearing out old gear I would have thought.

It's a tiny amount of the total capability, I'd have thought it would go without saying that the implications would be understood first.

I also think you overestimate what the Russians are capable of doing where such tools would be useful.

I finally think your tone is strange - are you trying to hint that this should not be the course of action?

Most of the countries that are doing this are NATO members, not much to worry about in terms of their own defences which has been bolstered since the invasion began.

Well it's only Poland so far right, and the US are giving them F-16's instead as cover. So yeah, I'm sure they'll be just fine ;)

oh and in case you hadn't noticed Russia are losing to Ukraine, what can they do to anyone else? :p

Were not, I've said it before in the thread, Majority of kit being handed over will be old/noncurrent stock, except maybe the NLAW's/Javs (We have plenty of them anyway). Most ammunition etc have shelf life, at which point they get reprocessed, discarded or replaced, that stuff will likely be first to be handed over. Stuff like Helmets body armour etc will likely not be current generation kit, but will be perfectly useful.

As someone mentioned when the idea of giving Ukraine Migs from Poland and the like first came up, the Polish Migs will presumably have been retooled to use Nato ordinance. Means we'll then also be able to supply Ukraine with air to air missles and other weapons.

Russia has committed about 10% of their, on paper I hasten to add, armed forces. Though given how committed the rest are to Syria and their domestic concerns not sure they are in much position to attack anyone else.

I thought Poland had f16s on order and took the US looking to backfill to be finding some f16s down the back of the sofa

Oh, there was some unconfirmed thing on twitter re: a high ranking Belarussian General quitting yesterday but looks like it's maybe the real deal:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10582905/Belarus-deputy-minister-QUITS-Ukraine-war.html
The deputy minister of defence for Belarus has reportedly submitted his resignation and claimed he cannot support the current Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Major General Viktor Gulevich, who is also the chief of the general staff, argued that Belarusian military unit personnel refused to take part in hostilities and that the Armed Forces of Belarus could not complete a single battalion group.

Lol when I was stationed in Germany in the late 80s early 90s all our kit was rubbish/old due to being the first regiment to be overrun by the Warsaw pack :) How times change.

Have heard it quoted as basically 2/3rds of their available combat units... they're leaving themselves rather vulnerable elsewhere - not sure how they're expecting to fund future endeavors in Syria if their economy and armed forces take a big hammering here - troops and equipment currently deployed there need to be replaced.

One thing I'm curious about is how it will affect Chechnya too - the current strongman leader there seems to have lost a bunch of his guys in Ukraine.

Sorry this is just not true, they have committed just about everything they can use in this situation.

The Russian plan was for a short war, at least one of the trucks I saw a picture of was crammed with riot gear, the paratroopers they sent in and lost were relatively lightweight but supposed to scare the locals into submission unfortunately they didn't.

I've just seen film of at least 40 year old gear being railed in and also a load of civilian type vehicles. They all had zs painted on them.

People fail to realise, none of these weapons matter, Putin and Lavarov made it very clear, the 3rd world War would be nuclear, oh and yes Russia has Stealth Nukes and the SATAN II. The sanctions should stop before they trigger Putin, BJ is a clown who's trying to play Churchill

To be fair, we are pretty well equipped these days from a personal kit perspective. Some durability issues with some of it, but for the most part its a world away from 12/13 years ago. This is in some ways thanks to Afghanistan/Iraq conflicts exposing major flaws in our old equipment.
I used to have to spend a lot of my own money to just have kit that is functional and fit for purpose. These days theres just no need to if you dont want to.

So we do nothing and let innocent people die and a country overrun by a dictator, what is next, we let him invade other countries too?
