And in all this, the energy companies, govt, oil companies rubbing their hands able to make a fortune out of another crisis... and we all have to pay the price.

It's almost like I am cynical and it's almost like it's happened before.

This is the beginning of almost demonising people using gas etc.

The wealthy are able to take the hit and probably look at alternatives, because, well they are well off.

For most people, we are going to be smashed with traditional energy prices, but it wont be looked at with empathy, it will be frowned upon eventually. Mark my words.

No help will be incoming, this is the future we all want. Either suffer financially, or become a good person for the greater good and pay for "a greener" solution.

I know this is technically off topic, but it all adds in. We need to suffer financially for the greater good? Sorry but what is that? Energy firms making an absolute killing?

I can't afford an EV, but fuel prices are going to massively reduce my spare income. Obv elec and gas will hit me hard too, but guess I have to get over it? I've seen people suggest EV cars can be cheap around 20k etc.. lol cheap at 20k.

However wealth is typically invested. Thus it's dependant on market forces and it's not guaranteed.

So those rich with their investments may find that the investment goes down. If they liquidate then they would seek the most stable currency - that's the dollar. So we'd see cash flowing towards the dollar and destabilising the euro. The Chinese currency may also prove attractive in being stable.

Commutes and travel will see an impact due to fuel prices so I'm expecting more work from home to start appearing.

You are nuts - no one should be OK with a situation where even people working a reasonable job and moderate lifestyle are having to look at benefits to make ends meet.

Where's this coming from? I live on my own with a reasonable job and I have money left at the end of each month, people need to look at their budgets a bit more closely

The problem going forward is people like Nige Farage taking it upon himself to be for all those that dont want "green".

Making it a binary and polarising topic that will no doubt turn into a us and them camp.

All those that can't afford it will be right wing gas loving planet killers and... poor working class.

The righteous will pick the anti Nigel stance of well, the planets best interest... but more importantly... able to afford their Tesla and private EV charging point in their garage. It's obvious it's going to go down this road.
100% agree. Pretty much already this way in the US.
One thing this conflict might show is that we are still heavily reliant on gas and oil so let’s not do anything too hasty. Make the move to green and start reducing the dependency, just don’t expect it to happen overnight.

Probably need to take a second or third job then.

I don't think there is any other suitable response for such a lovely and caring attitude to others apart from this.....

This is the crux of every discussion on finances. This is the crux of every discussion on benefits. Unfortunately you cannot fundamentally judge or have a one size fits all response for how people spend their money.

My partner and I earn far about the average salary and yet we also both spend far far less than the majority of our friends who make far less than us. Plenty of people on benefits have enough (perhaps not now with everything thats happened recently) but other say they don't have anywhere near enough.

Thats the problem with a free country. People can spend their money on whatever they like and then demand to be taken care of when their decisions leave them broke. Its probably going to be the biggest issue in the next 50 years when global warming truly kicks in and people have to make hard decisions on quality of life vs their future.

That might be true legally, but not morally imo.

Just making it illegal doesn't mean it's not legitimate for people in an area to seek independence and demonstrate that they want independence.

True, but we have to remember that's not what actually happened in the case of Ukraine. There was no genuine independence movement. Instead there was an illegal referendum orchestrated by Russia in 2014, an illegal invasion by Russia in 2014, and another illegal invasion this year.

Many independence movements throughout history have involved shows of feeling and actions which may not have been legally legitimate (eg Ghandi's salt march), but were probably morally legitimate, and broadly should be respected.

Yes, but Ghandi genuinely spoke for the majority of the people, and the British were forced to recognise that fact. Again, this is not what happened in Ukraine.

I guess this is just a bit of a difference in opinion over the scale at which self determination is legitimate and under what circumstances laws are not legitimate, and given it's a hypothetical scenario we're probably not going to get anywhere talking about it in this thread :p

I absolutely support the principle of independence. I want freedom and independence for Scotland, and I want the UK to end the occupation of Northern Ireland so it can be absorbed into the ROI. If Wales wanted to become independent, I'd support that too.

However, I don't support a foreign government running a fake independence movement in part of another country (including a rigged, illegal, unconstitutional referendum), pretending it was legitimate, then invading because the other country refused to condone these illegal shenanigans.

Not from me personally - but people can have all kinds of responsibilities, etc. and other factors which limit their options. For instance one person I know lives a fairly frugal life so they can pay their elderly mum's caring costs abroad.

Diesel has gone up from €1.65 to €2.03 here in less than a week and you can’t tell me that this diesel was crude in the ground 24 hours ago and hence subject to these price increases.

Profiteering on luxury items is one thing, on virtual purchases such as fuel, utilities and food needs to stop.

Macron could breeze back into the Élysée Palace just by fixing this.

Would be easier just to make a list of countries that are friendly towards Russia, would save a lot of time

How much emotional intelligence are you bringing to that assessment of yours over what constitutes a "reasonable job"?

Reasonable in terms of the value your work brings to UK society, or reasonable in the wage it brings home?

Either way, I can't get your argument to stack up.

Care workers struggling to keep a roof over their head. Should they be paid more? Or look for a different job that pays better?

What I know is that a very one-sided messaged is being pushed. For some reason we're meant to lionise Zelenskiy who is part of the machine. We've also been fed footage and photos, presented as recent that are in fact many years old.

That was enough to get my ******** detector buzzing so I'm looking around, trying to find out the history and agendas at play. That's all.

So where's your evidence of all thos given you say you are searching for the truth?

Iirc you were asked for sources when you were posting the same sort of agenda for nutrition the other day but refused (couldn't?) provide any, surely if you have it there you should be sharing more than Wikipedia articles and a YouTube video.

I find it curious that these types of post(ers) seem to come in waves one after the other, it's like they take turns to posit their heavily biased view as though they are trying to find truth. Many similar political threads have followed the same MO over the years, most notably from my experience being the Brexit ones and ones like this. It's almost like a poorly planned, concerted effort...
