This is a fast moving thread, but just a thought. If Russia withdraws now, despite the heavy losses, they must know that the rebuilding of Ukraine and the consequent re-arming will mean that they will have an openly hostile anti-Russian neighbour who may yet join the EU and Nato.

Any chance Russia has to annex further land will be gone for generations... Vlad must be calculating that he may as well prosecute a bloody bitter war now rather than concede and create the very thing he was wailing against (an anti-Russia neighbour being used as a vehicle to punish mother Russia)?

It's not entirely unusual for subs to get trapped in fishermens' nets and sink the boat. It could just as easily be one of ours if it was, but 100 miles west of Stavanger does look like something either coming from the Barents sea or moving towards it. I note the BBC are being fairly quiet on any speculation as to why the trawler sank.

The problem is that any action like this will get spun by Russia. Personally I don’t think it helps.

I see much of "we caused this" feom people. Perhaps Ukraine being a pawn and letting them do what they want is actually sensible. Why does Russia feel they are OK to hold Ukraine, but not NATO. Little bit of a double standard.

I don't know what you mean by this.

Russia is in the wrong but the Ukraine government aren't the angels they're portrayed to be. The only true victims in all this are the citizens, victims of other people's agendas.

Both Russia and the Ukraine don't seem to place the same value on human lives as we do.

They're both bad, there is no 'right' or 'good' here so there's no good way for the wind to blow. Putin is justifying things with his bias, Zelenskiy is defending things with his bias but WE are being sold a story to buy-in to.

Also, AFAIK Qanon is a trump related myth, in fairness that's all I know about it. Is it a person or a group? I guess I could look it up if I cared.
