However it's being reported that the Ukrainians have claimed it was from rocket-artillery (big unguided rockets) but there's no MLRS style rocket Russia has which has a warhead around that size (no 220mm rockets with a 2000lb warhead and TOS-1 thermobaric doesn't dig deep craters like this)

Maybe they meant rocket artillery as in rocket assisted artillery not long range rocket launching artillery? /shrug.

In fact there is only the large FAB-1500 unguided bomb which matches up (3300lb bomb) but this is carried by the very large Tu-22M bombers which would have been widely noticed due to it's size and rarity

V2 Crater from WW2 also with man for scale - V2 had a 2000lb warhead and the crater sizes are fairly similar (V2's is just a little smaller I'd say) when compared to the size of man.

Crazy idea here, but considering where this war is being fought is it possible a Russian artillery strike set of an unexploded German/Soviet WW2 bomb?

As far as I'm aware their guided 1500's can be carried on all of their modern Multirole platforms. Wouldnt make a lot of sense to use guided munitions in this fashion though surely?

Good point, I'd forgotten about the guided bombs as the RuAF doesn't seem to have many but the the KAB-1500L (3300lb Laser Guided bomb) can be fitted on the Su-34/35 which would make sense over the aircraft type. I wonder if the Russians were monitoring the phone of someone in the Ukraine military etc and decided that, if they made a call from the hospital, that building must have actually been a command post/storage etc rather than a hospital and added it to the target list. It'd make sense as to why the RuAF may have dropped a fairly specialised bomb if they thought the target was something important.

I think if chemical weapons start getting used that might well be the trigger of the rest getting involved.

Seeing how the west is running scared of Russia’s nukes makes me wonder whether NATO would actually do anything if say Poland were attacked, or would they say “we mustn’t escalate”?
Putin only understands strength and right now we look weak.

If NATO didn’t respond militarily when a NATO member was attacked, that would be the green light for Putin to do whatever he wanted. It simply cannot, and wouldn’t happen.
