There's a process to follow and criteria to meet.

To join the Alliance, nations are expected to respect the values of the North Atlantic Treaty, and to meet certain political, economic and military criteria, set out in the Alliance’s 1995 Study on Enlargement. These criteria include a functioning democratic political system based on a market economy; fair treatment of minority populations; a commitment to resolve conflicts peacefully; an ability and willingness to make a military contribution to NATO operations; and a commitment to democratic civil-military relations and institutions

I think regardless of that I'm not sure a unanimous decision would have been made on accepting it before the invasion and even if every country accepted accession I also believe it was policy to effectively leave it an unknown.

Mainly because in order to join NATO all 30 countries must agree. I think there is (understandably) trepidation around allowing a country still fresh from conflict into NATO where any aggression following joining demands armed response.

That is the big question, will Putin follow his words with action.

"Why do we need a world without Russia in it.? "


He will have nothing to loose if Russia gets close to completely imploding and failing.

Just hit the button and laugh, like the playground bully bursting the football.

You've got to hope at that point his bodyguards realise they only way they have even q chance of them qnd thier families living is to put q bullet in his head.

I wonder if he makes sure they're all single men

Well historically it ought to be reasonably audible, but a repeat of the barely eventful collapse of the USSR is a possibility considering similar levels of corruption have manifested.

If the fate of the world hangs on those close to him or chain of command it is a 50/50 thing IMO, despite the claims some make which I think are more about reassuring themselves than the reality.

I'd imagine those close to him would all be too suspicious of each other to try and organise something within themselves to take him out or subvert him as well unfortunately.

He will have made sure they will all take a bullitt for him, and obey his orders without any question whatsoever, same as all his generals and advisors around him.

Anyone who has ever lifted a finger, or raised a voice or concern, will be dead I have no doubt.

The current incumbents will know that, so will never dare cross him.

That's why I say a gaurd, a single individual can make that decision in the heat of the moment but I think rhe chance is still incredibly low you're right
