NATO have been looking into changing their remit, to allow them to preemptively act, and even to act in a preventative way, but as yet nothing has been agreed or put into place to allow them legally to act in that way.

They are currently purely a defensive organisation, who can only retaliate once they have been directly attacked.

Didn't they change it so a Cyber attack on one country can trigger article 5?

You've seen the destruction they have brought Ukraine ? They have no intention of keeping the people around, they'll either crush them under the rubble or hope they move out

Not pushing back will mean they will just keep escalating and at some point that escalation involves nuclear weapons, will people like yourself on the side of "we can't dare push back" still have your heads buried in the sand when the nukes are falling and say "we shouldn't retaliate because they might escalate even more" even though the bar of escalation cannot be raised :rolleyes:

I've read the article and I've also seen video of Russia showing Tucker's show on state TV for propaganda purposes. What aren't you understanding here? Are you trying to say they never broadcast Tucker as he took Russia's side in this?

Wasnt really "changed", more like the question was asked and the clarified that it "Could" trigger an Article 5 response. However I would expect that to be a proper attack in safety Critical infrastructure where loss of life or severe threat to population occurs (NHS/Nuclear/Power infrastructure) or purely military targets (GCHQ, Restricted/Secret networks Etc) but even then I'd imagine it would likely need to be very severe to prompt reprocussion, and them likely only in kind they get hacked back or impact their ability to access internet etc etc..

My favourite thing about this forum is people pretending they aren't exactly who they come across as being. As if they are not inexplicably transparent in every thing and every way they post.

You and many others on here just do not get it.

Ukraine is being sacrificed for the rest of the world to live, and to give time for Russia to be destroyed economically.

To all intents and purposes the West will allow ukraine to be wiped off the face of the earth, either conventionally or through the use of worse weapons.

At no time up to and including that point occuring, will the West or NATO intervene directly. Even after we will sit back and wait to see where Russia goes next

The west/NATO will up to a point, continue to throw weapons and money at Ukraine, untill it is obvious Ukraine will fall, then the influx of help will dry up pretty rapidly.

NATO will defend their member states, should any be directly attacked (massively unlikely) but they will never go into Ukraine as they are not allowed to.

I thought I was right wing in my opinions until I had certain folks to compare to.
I am so glad my thought process doesn't involve supporting Putin killing Ukrainians or indeed anything rated to Tucker Carleson

The guy just makes himself look like an idiot. He could have followed the posts back to his post where he clearly say it but no, that is too difficult.

Reading those pages around that date the amount of posters swooning over Putin is worrying to say the least. They seem to crave leadership that invades other countries, murders political rivals, dissidents and journalists. You can imagine them all in 1933 voting for Hitler.
