Won't make any difference to China. Unless they win contracts to rebuild whatever is left of the Russian occupied zones.

The Chinese economy is not doing great either they have a load of internal issues to sort and work is slowly being pulled from them. The only interest the west has in it is the internal market is huge.

Fair point, I agree if it was at market rates, landlords would be tempted to kick out existing tenants, although the scheme is advertised as been short term only.

What most people have not realised is it's £350 a room in a shared house or £350 for the whole property no matter how many rooms are taken (it's a one off payment per address that takes refugees only and no matter how many from different families) .

It's £350 flat not per room in a property no matter how many families or people you take in, it's always £350 only on the single property. It is a bit of a joke to be honest as with higher fuel bills this will not even cover the basics to house anyone even sharing with a family willing to help, they will need other funds if they can't get access to their money to help pay for food and bills.

This is nothing more than the government saying you want them and complaining then you pay to keep them and their token £350 is worthless to make them look like they have done something. It's a bad joke really.

Also I bet you this will be classed as income and taxed too, so it's not really even £350 you will get.

Regardless of the outcome of the war, the only winner is China.
XI Jinping must pinch himeself every morning.

The US just got their Atlanticist base back up to full power so China is not the only one that benefits here.

Big (terminal) problem for China is how their going to deal with the food shortages in countries they've been trying to pull to their geopolitical sphere in Africa, Central/South America and parts of Asia due to this war because they certainly can't stop them seeing the truth like their own citizens.

The stakes are much higher than Beijing really wants.

People doing this are probably more charitable than most and will not see it as a money making exercise. Luckily not everyone is motivated solely by money.

I don't think that is enough to count as a win.

The solution is pretty obvious. Blame it on the west. Further driving a wedge between these nations and the west. China still wins and we lose.

Oh the irony. Russia bad for invading we need to cut them off. Runs to Saudi with the begging bowl pleading with them to increase oil ouput, while Saudi is bombing Yemen and asking the US for more help with it.

Maybe we should sanction them as well and have a full on Oil crisis.

It's all getting very worrying. How worried should we be now? Does anyone think World War III is imminent with Russia and perhaps China v the West and we'll all be heading towards bunkers?

I hope so, because reality is you will be spending some money to help as the £350 is worthless token only. What about the extra bills that will need paying etc etc. £350 is meant to be a thank you as the government put it.. more like thanks for saving us money to house them and feed them etc etc. Joke..

I suspect we will be in a new cold war for many decades and it will be China and Russia vs the west. There are many steps that can be taken to avoid WW3 many of which would require us to cooperate with them to find a middle ground (like that's going to happen anytime soon ).

Ahh so basically you have to feed them as well. Very different to a normal tenancy then.

I expect it will just be charitable people doing it.

And what exactly is wrong with that? If people want to help and have the space, the amount of money is secondary. People complain about the market economy and lack of society, now they are able to do something which may cost a little but they probably are able to afford if they take it up.

Also the refugees will be able to work and will also probably be entitled to benefits.

I don't think WW3, more economic "WW" with a lot of rebalancing.

I do see China as being a heavyweight, same as the US. I see the EU and RU running in the "runners up" before the rest of the world. I think the US understands china's problems and vice versa (from a keeping people fed and ensuring trade POV).

I don't think China wants a WW3 or an economic-WW as it's economy is pretty fragile, so we're likely to see a lot more proxy influence wars in Africa, Middle East and South America.

There is the question of the SE China sea. However I think these resources will become a key strategic issue.

I was wondering that and was going to check the detail when the detail was released. I expected it to be this way but has it been confirmed?

Sums up this Govt in many ways tbh

If it is taxable income then again it benefits the room in your house scenario again as that would come under the rent a room relief (£7.5k tax free) but not if it's a whole house, where it'd all be taxable income, after expenses.

Anyone that can afford to do it should and has space to help, these people are angels in my book that are will and able to help. I have nothing wrong with it at all I wish I could do the same but can't, my issue is the government has basically made the UK citizens that are able to help into more debt the £350 token is again worthless and with the new higher bills and food prices it means nothing the £350 if you take in a family, think about it a family of 4 or 3 and you think the £350 will help ? Even one person will be a tight one to help.. It's a joke by the government.

Anyone helping and willing to take on extra burdens now to help is an angel, but most of us in uk are freaking out about our bills and the wages now are worthless for most people and many of us are laughed at when mentioning a pay rise.
