I doubt he has any choice, they probably drugged him and told him there'll be some nice young hair to stroke and sniff when he gets there, I can't think of any less globally, or even self aware US president in modern times. too old, too soft, too easily manipulated. Near senile.

My god imagine calling out someone else's cognitive function when you can't even understand the post you quoting :cry:

Why are so many of Russia's tanks in Ukraine so antiquated looking, like cold war relics? They've had the best part of two decades to build new kit.

Is it the case they've just sent their second grade kit to Ukraine?

Now, let me be clear, it's far from my intention to say this is specifically about Colonel_Klinck, it is not. I can only have personal conjecture and no certainty as to his origins, as with most on public forums, but in my opinion, some who continually post derogatory comments about the UK must have a marked differentiation between where they are living now and where their heart still lies.

Quite what the UK offers, or their long term goals are, to override their heart and personal values in order to live in this country, is also open to conjecture. Given their hatred of many facets of the UK and her history, there must be a pressing need to be be here, yet be so openly vindictive about their adopted country's history and culture.

This is the most moronic thing I’ve read in a while.

Criticising and finding our government to be a joke does not equate to hating our country, nor does it mean our heat lays elsewhere.

This sort of nationalist idiocy is pathetic.

Disliking of ones government and the criticising of it does not equal hate towards ones country.

Kindly **** off.

They don't spend that mush more than the UK
You can't have massive amount of tanks, up to date Navy (that at least does seem to be fairly modern), a large airforce, a large nuclear arsenal etc etc
There is simply not enough money to do it all.

If they genuinely believe NATO is a threat to them then the sane choice was to commit as little as possible in taking Ukraine to retain a counter / strategic reserve to fight NATO with if it came to it

Russia is keeping the bulk of its modern and best forces out of this so far. My prediction is that as soon as these are committed to the fight in Ukraine - China will move on Siberia/Eastern Russia. This will put them in favour with the West, and reduce immediate pressure with Taiwan and the first and second island chains.

Win win for Big C - they get a load of space and resources, look good with the major powers and those they really depend on for growth economically. Big risk on Nuclear retailiation though - but they do have a capable counter.
Putin would have every single nuclear missile in the world apart from his own pointed up his jacksie

UK is spedning £45 Billion this year on defence - and thats with reduced Army as well (tank fleet down to 148 Chally 3) ; although the recent events might be a look again at armour numbers - and the threat of top attack weapons. Russia built a load of tanks , the T55 still sells for $260,000 - and it`ll last just as long in Ukraine as the latest T90A is doing

I think they spent the budget on the super fast rockets that could hit UK in 5 minutes ( so the Sun Newspaper tells me for what that is worth lol )

As others have alluded to rumours are half the Russian military budget is tied up in marinas around the Mediterranean.

Also the forces invading Ukraine have been substantially bulked out by hardware older even than that Russia holds in active reserve - stuff literally 1 step away from being scrapped put back into service (there was supposed to be a refurbishment program but it looks like that has likely had money siphoned off as well from the looks of things in Ukraine).

I think this whole endeavour to seige Ukraine has become a complete embarrassment for Russia. I used to think they were a fairly formidable military force, judging by the war game exercises they used to band about.

But all this conflict has shown is their ineptness, lack of tactics, shabby equipment, and a complete lack of regard for innocent civilians. They've literally become a cesspit of a country overnight.

I wonder how much inventory doesn't actually exist due to corruption?

I suspect its mainly there, just been constantly salvaged to keep it all running
I dont dount they also have some nice new shiny high tech stuff, but there is a vast difference in having a handful for parades, fly bys etc and to take to shows to try to flog versions to other countries, than completely refreshing your whole armed forces with the latest
Even the Americans with their massive military budget take a decade or two to replace a model/variant.
The old stuff still has uses and doesnt go obsolete immediately, but its not going to be that good if you shoved it in a hanger, left in there for 20 years, allowed bits to be pinched in order to keep x number working etc

Luckily it's getting scrapped for them in Ukraine...

A sub parked off Norway will hit the UK in 5 minutes - and that was the 1960`s. We wouldnt even know about it until the first flash; even central asia silo launched would take 15..... and we wouldnt know until the first landed, because the UK has no anti missile defence system (Bloodhound was scrapped decades ago) and the government wouldnt tell us anyway

this was on the radio4today this morning why the time delay. ? wrong news feed

Yeah got recirculated on my terminal, was a bit confused aswell, but posted it anyway.
Think that news is from at least ~5hrs ago now, this must be via a different source.

When you remove the microscope from this Ukraine war, China is a big threat to world peace. They basically gave Russia approval to invade Ukraine and any public statements they make now come across as lip service. They know that in a similar situation they can ride out sanctions, have infinitely superior logistics to Russia, and an institutionalized political system that will garner home support.

It is amazing that the West allowed China to grow so much. I remember back in the 00s them saying something along the lines of "we'll be a friendly superpower". They know how to sandbag and do things under the radar. Trump (for all his faults) was able to expose some of their ugly side during the trade war. But there is this undercurrent of hostility brewing with them developing their military especially since Xi Jinping came along.

When Poland, Bulgaria and Romania joined the EU it was the perfect chance to transition away from Asian manufacturing and for Europe to be self sufficient. Likewise US and the many Latin American countries they could depend on. It's a missed opportunity and one that will be rued for generations to come.
