BT Full Fibre 900 - thinking of going for it.

Finally. 0800 I had a call to say he’d be 5 mins. 3 mins latter knock knock. Brilliant chap, we talked tech and about it all.

1st issue locating the CBT. I knew where it was but the documents he had was wrong.

2nd issue was the CBT wasn’t active. He had to call them and that took and hour but sorted.

I was more than happy to do away with the copper so this was used to pull the new fibre in. Really impressed that it comes pre terminated in the CBT end. No issue pulling the new line. Cut the side of the duct so the cable could run across neatly.

Only issue is when he drilled from the inside out. I had advised go slow because you’ll blow the render but really you should go outside in. Having already done it my self for a Ethernet run to the garage I knew the risks. Anyway he didn’t and nice big chunk blown off. Thankfully he fitted the box over it and did plaster it with silicon.

Splicing took a few goes but it was good. Then the hub went online. 5 mins latter it’s doing and update.

Everything is basic and dirty for now just to make sure it works.

Chatting away I’m the 1st to have FTTP from this CBT. It’s an 8 port unit but the CBT only supplies a few properties. It’s also looks like there is no limit on the new of lines you can have which is interesting.

I just had EE FTTP 900/110 installed a week ago. I had an initial issue with download speed only reaching ~400Mb/s but after a couple of calls I'm now hitting the full 900Mb/s (hard wired) after what is likely a speed profile reset their end.

I believe the EE smart hub router and the BT Smart Hub 2 are one and the same and you may experience the ~51Mb/s upload cap which is a firmware bug and detailed at length (138 pages) on the community forum. If I connect straight through the ONT with a PPPoE connection I hit the full 110Mb/s upload speed and I plan on using a 3rd party router later on anyway so it's not a big issue for me.

I have just been looking at this myself, does this use Virgins lines at all as I have Virgin fibre now the M600 package called them to try and get a deal and they are not interested so I’m looking at moving to EE fibre I can get it in my area just don’t know how they would get a fibre cable to the house without using the existing one that’s installed?

Nope BT uses everything of its own. It also a proper fibre cable. Virgin is a coxial cable.

TV unit sits in the corner blocking the lights of the ONT? That feeling when it's nearly complete. :D

Nice thread and pics. I had a real song and dance with OR too in a new build, but to their credit they kept me updated and it got sorted quite fast. Much like you I thought about the 900 but in the end I didn't go for it and settled on 500. Half price for 3 months + £110 back thanks to a cashback site, so in the end the net price to me is essentially what the 150 would have been

For me though and has has been mentioned, its the latency (and jitter) plus stability that makes so much difference. The only downside is, I can't use my old 'Virgin Media must be having issues again' on conference calls when I wasn't paying attention.

Did you decide on a router yet?

I’m off work ill and had to fix the laptop so I took some time to play with the BT Hub.

In doing so BT called me confirming a issue and that they had tried there end. A engineer will be in the area on an hour who will do a test. Turns out it was a friend of mine and the end in the junction box was dirty. It’s been wash, cleaned and now passing light properly.

I’ve tried my TP Pink Deco X20 triple set and the Hub on their own and together. For now keeping the hub

I got a deal via EE and paying £36 a month.

I think, from what the local virgin rep was saying, some of their new stuff is full fibre to the property, as they were trying to get me to switch from BT.
It is, but it's converted to DOCSIS outside the house and run inside as coaxial. One of the major downsides of Virgin Media has been the absolutely terrible hardware they force you to use, so even having FTTP with them doesn't allow you to escape that part.

That’s what I’d heard previously but he was adamant it was Fibre into the property. Seemed strange though as I haven’t heard of any Fibre routers for Virgin, nor any ONTs.

I wouldn't spend much time looking into what a VM sales rep said, they don't do fibre in the sense that everybody else does GPoN or ethernet.

I thought Virgin offered FTTP / leased lines under their business contracts?

It's still their DOCSIS cable but with a 'business support' package bolted on i.e we'll be out within 24 hours if we feel like it.

Which is not then 24 hours but more 4 days. Had it in my old place and soon removed.

So got cut off yesterday. Next door had there FFTP fitted and out cable got cut… work that out. We borrowed nextdoors via an ether cable.

BT return today and fitted a new cable and splice. Said sue to how it was cooked around the old lines.

BT this time has give me £250 compo as I really kicked off not being able to work.

Finally this has been signed off and working so made it neat and hidden as best as I could. Wanted router up off floor to get good cover but be hidden with the Tv as best as I could. Hook and loop tape for the win. could have added more sockets to wall than a strip but wants a quick solution. Happy wife happy life. I powered off every device. I then reset the hub and only le try laptop and phone connect. Know the sound a Fox makes. Try a 16 year old was funny. I then added 1 BT disc which is now in the loft and hard wired back into a switch. I then added a device at a time and renamed in the device list. One more disc is on way and will be in the garage/garden.

So far very happy.

Edit this also is about the normal speed I’m getting. Does peak a lot higher. Had 2.2 at one stage.
