Are you saying they might be.............

Gaz-lighting him?

Ooof.

I said they pre-staged ~50% of their army on the border not ~50% of their entire military.

Russia's military may have ~900,000 personnel excluding reservists but their army (including airborne troops) is only ~320,000 strong, so the 150,000+ army troops they pre-staged for the ground invasion would constitute ~50% of the army. The big 900k number the media like to parade around in articles on Ukraine includes the navy personnel, the air force personnel, the strategic nuclear weapons force and their military rail network forces (yes they still have those lol).

Granted, given Putin's current mental state it is possible he used sailors, aircraft mechanics and train drivers as ground troops to invade Ukraine (and judging by the ground troops performance it would explain a great many things) but I felt safe to presume otherwise in the math :p

I don't think Russia has depleted from their main standing army or reserves by anything like the number built up for Ukraine represents - from what I saw in the build up it isn't far from the truth that their ground forces are bulked out with mechanics and train drivers :s

That said I do think they've expended quite a lot of their more experienced elite soldiers putting them into battle alongside a larger number of extremely inexperienced soldiers which will have a significant cost on their regular armed forces capabilities.

Putin seems to have some kind of paranoia of using the main forces as if NATO is still some kind of threat like the early cold war era - despite most Western countries having cut their military to the bone and moved to a more defensive than offensive composition.

Demands seem far more "reasonable" than the start of the conflict, however, whilst ending violence and no further escalation would be good, with Russia seemingly on the back foot and Ukraine already having been through a massive amount with huge backing, i think they should fight on quite frankly.

Dont give an inch to Puty!

I think they should take the deal, people keep making claims how the Russians are finished and how Ukraine have pretty much won now but they have been saying it for atleast a week. If anything Russia has made more ground.

Zelensky should take the deal, end the war so it allows the Ukrainian people to go home.

Rubbish.

Napoleon raised over half a million soldiers from his empire to invade Russia, the biggest army Europe had ever seen. He made it all the way to Moscow before retreating, only 120,000 came home.

Advancing and winning aren't really the same thing, every day Russia loses more troops, tanks, etc than Ukraine does, they have already lost between a third and half of the tanks they sent into Ukraine.

This is offensive/defensive disadvantage/advantage, Ukraine isn't going to run out of troops or weapons, Russia is and every body that returns home is another reason for Russia to cut it's losses and leave just like they did in Afghanistan.

War or peace... Russia suffers from deep, festering wounds that nobody seems to be interested in tending, that is all I've personally ever meant regarding their likely 'victory'.

Strange as there has been signs today of China becoming more pro Ukraine. They were showing the incident where Russia killed people queing for bread for example

I don't see anything that stops Russia from doing this again....and next time they won't underestimate their target. Next time will end the country if they let Russia off the hook now.

Going by the comments it seems YouTube access is still going strong in Russia lol.

I though the comments section is usually toxic but this is damn near radioactive "Who cares if Zelenskyy is a jew, so was Judas", "As to be expected from the son of a Nazi", etc >.>

Russian troll farms have been going crazy. The UN YouTube stream has some pretty special comments on its live chat, a lot of them are "India loves Russia" which is a bit odd. Plus the usual anti West, nazi, conspiracy rubbish etc.

Having buffer countries with no nato is what got us into this mess. Checkmate if russia invate nato or nato invade russia, it makes and keeps the buffer countries weak and easy to invade (unless putin signs that it’s sovereign and non-russian territory) just as we've seen before. During an invasion “its an internal russia issue” line gets trotted out thus becomes a russia-nato checkmate.
Russia is simply attempting to dictate the rules and stall. Paused it will regroup and seek to continue where it left off. maybe in few years time.
It’s almost impossible to trust him as a leader given the demonstration of his respect for any agreement. I suspect that putin is also hoping the terms sow dissatisfaction over the next 5 years.

Xi has basically said “behave yourselves” to russia, belarus and ukraine.
