Ukraine Invasion - Please do not post videos showing attacks/similar

China must be wondering how much of thier crap have they have copied that's actually any good.

I think they will have also thought about what it means to have lots of assets and not use them effectively. Taiwan is a different problem, they can't simply roll over the border. If Ukraine gave the designers chance to try their drone, anti-tank and anti-aircraft designs a new try, then Taiwan will be a testing ground for undersea drones and sea warfare.

China has developed it's own torpedos from scratch. The newer variants of long range missiles have also been Chinese designs rather than adaptations.

Given the sea battlegrounds, I would suspect that a large number of surface launched long-medium range missiles would be used to assault Taiwan. However more likely is simply to lay siege to Taiwan in a "peaceful" war. In the latter case it will be interesting to see the effect of undersea drones in this case - both to deploy a siege but also to break/combat it.

But surely that would galvanise the thought process behind an EU army, but they are saying the don't want one. Surely if ever the time to have one it would be now, wouldn't it?

Well I suspect Poland would go nuts in any internal meeting as would the Baltic states + UK would not be happy externally either, would be a really dumb idea right now, especially after France and Germany dropped the ball on this whole situation. They're the biggest two defence exporters to Russia post-2014, they were in denial about the threat here and Germany, in addition to underfunding its military, has both refused to supply lethal aid to Ukraine pre-invasion and blocked others from doing so too.

This slack, naive approach has resulted in Putin believing that he could invade and underestimating the reaction from Europe - assuming they'd be too divided given the weak response previously and the carrying on of business as normal by some.

Lovely video on youtube of Ukraine blowing up two tos-1 vehicles.

A quick google on value seems to say $13M plus for the pair

Oh nice, those are particularly nasty (and fortunately relatively rare) any idea when it happened or when the video was uploaded?

I doubt undersea drones are going to be a big thing in the next few years, Taiwan is still trying to build up a decent fleet of submarines. Some good anti-ship missiles would be useful, sadly Ukraine's homegrown Neptune missiles don't seem to have been available yet not sure if they had a few and they're being saved for an actual Russian attempt on Odesa or if they were destroyed in the initial Russian bombardment or if they haven't really had any at all yet as the main shipment of them was supposed to be due this spring.

If Taiwan has a good supply of similar then that + their airforce could make a Chinese invasion or encirclement/blockade rather tricky.

In theory - If Ukraine retaliated and started launching missles and shelling capital cities in Russia destroying hospitals, schools, shopping centers and residents homes would Putin / the Russian state be legally allowed to call it a 'war' instead of an 'operation'?
Would the Russian government revoke the law that's everyone is not allowed to call it a war without getting up to 15 years in prison?

Uploaded yesterday. Type this into youtube and it should come up :

Ukrainian forces attack 2 Russian TOS-1 thermobaric weapon systems, get a direct hit on 2nd attempt

Well that killed the crew running away from it with the shockwave. Yet another stunning design from Putin's military - when it goes off it takes everything around it with it - the other TOS-1 next to it would be toast too.

So Russian tanks - kill crew easily. Russian MLRS kills crew+anything around it easily. I'm starting to see a design principle that soldiers are expendable. That won't be lost on countries wishing to procure arms.

I think the world over, drone sales would have skyrocketed and big iron arms plummeted.

In March 2021, the Ukrainian Navy obtained the first units of the RK-360MC Neptune.[4]

The issue with sea is that you need to be able to project defence/attack in two mediums - this is where being underwater negates the use of cruise/antiship but allows threat to shipping in an asymmetrical way. Subs are too big/expensive thus the use of underwater 'cruise missiles'/autonomous drones with attack capabilities.

Some of my Russian friends are getting a lot of stick at work, and their kids are suffering some bullying which I fear is only going to get worse. :(
Same thing happened when covid kicked off, Chinese in UK were getting hammered.

I don't quite understand how people justify attacking/hating on random Russians etc for actions/things they have no control over?

It was bound to happen. I too have Russian work colleagues and friends too (and a friend who was born in Russia, has most of his family in Ukraine and lived in UK) Whilst it's completely not their fault, i'm sure if a huge percentage of Russian civilians revolted / started to riot to get Putin out then it would make it hugely difficult for the Russian government to keep Putin in

They have been... and they've been charged/arrested, and the spin in Russia is quite significant , people are silenced a lot for "instigating a revolution" or whatever the term they use is.

So corrupt. I did get that sense when I was in St Petersburg years ago. I can see why Russians are deciding to try and get out :(

I think people forget that it's the the population but the politicians, and they are different... unfortunately it's easy to jump on a bandwagon without realising or understanding the deeper impact of it.
The population can certainly swing things though

Interesting read

As the options open to the kleptocrats and and former secret policemen who Putin has protected and promoted close down, and the rage of the Russian people themselves rise, the best hope for ending this crisis may well rest with bad men acting to bring down the still worse and possibly deranged dictator who is leading them and Russia into the abyss.
