Trump was a good deterrent, just the right level of crazy - didn’t he launch cruise missiles into Syria at the first sight of chemical weapons being used?

No, he didn't. He sat on his arse and did nothing while Syria launched 12 chemical weapon attacks over 12 months (April 2016—April 2017) and finally took action with great reluctance after the 13th attack (also April 2017).

Syria shrugged it off, and launched a further 9 chemical attacks during Trump's term (January 2018—May 2019). Aside from an April 2018 missile strike on three Syrian chemical weapons sites, Trump did **** all about this.

Meanwhile, North Korea continued her missile tests with total impunity, and Russia continued to steal land in Ukraine because Putin knew that Trump was desperate for his respect and would not dare to raise a finger.

Trump's contribution to diplomatic relations amounted to little more than a few petulant tweets, and a failed attempt at détente with North Korea. What did this achieve? Absolutely nothing.

Did Trump end any wars? No. On the contrary, he threatened other countries with war, and enthusiastically maintained every war he'd inherited from Obama.

He refused to withdraw from Afghanistan despite promising to do so during his election campaign, failed to defeat ISIS (another campaign promise) and continued to supply Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates with billions of dollars worth of weapons for their war in Yemen.

So who exactly was deterred from doing what, during the Trump presidency? Nobody, and nothing. He was one of the weakest presidents the US has ever seen.

Hate to say it, given I think Trump was an embarrassment as a U.S. president, but, he didn’t kick off any wars and I genuinely think he didn’t have a single adversary who thought not to think twice before acting whilst he was in the White House…..

A sad state of affairs when it takes the likes of him to ironically maintain peace and stability of sorts…..

This is demonstrably false.

Yeah, he basically phoned Putin and told him he was about to launch a missile strike on a Syrian base known to house Russian personnel and to get his guys out immediately, but not to warn the Syrians or he wouldn't call next time. He made Putin look like an armature and cost him a lot of favour with Assad for not mentioning his base/weapons were about to get **** mixed. Putin learned not to test Trump after that day lol.

So Trump's idea of being tough on Putin was to give him advance warning of American attacks? Is that what you're going with? :D :D :D

BTW, where's the evidence that Trump told Putin not to tell the Syrians he was going to attack? As I recall, Trump's warnings were very public, which gave Syria plenty of time to prepare.

Trump also essentially threatened to nuke the **** out of Nuke North Korea; maybe he was the right level of crazy to deal with the worlds dictators

Eh? unless by that you mean Ukraine didn't take it back that didn't happen.

Aside from some skirmishes the period 2015-2020 was described as a "frozen conflict" with minimal territory changes - there was some slight settling of the line of control in most cases each side moving around 1km apart creating a no man's land. But for most of that period things largely settled into a stalled pattern with the only real activity being Russia frequently building up then drawing down troops along their side of the border as "exercises".

Defense official suggests Russia doesn't seem to want to take Kyiv at all anymore and is focused on defensive positions there.

Wouldn't bet on it but I'm guessing Russia has realised they aren't going to blitz their way in and trying to besiege a city the size of Kyiv with the defence Kyiv has with the 40K or so troops they have in the area or even with what is left of their original near 200K just isn't going to work. Not sure where that leaves things.

TBH I can't see as things stand how this doesn't end up with Russia pushed out of all but Crimea which they would be able to hold as Ukraine lacks the amphibious warfare capabilities and the relatively narrow land approach heavily favours the defenders. Unless Ukraine settles for battering the Donbas for peace which seems a bad though understandable move given the loss of life. Russia is going to have to go all in at this point one way or another to hold their current gains or somehow cut off supplies to Ukraine.

:D All the Trumpies waffling, his yesterdays village idiot. Get over it his gone, his a minor blimp in history. When America supped a bit too much Dr pepper they elected a deranged racist mysoginist word shuffler.

Yes I remember that speech, and how unequivocal it was. I can't remember anything President Biden has said, has he ever actually said anything memorable? Orange man may well be back in 2024, from how Biden is shaping, and how his popularity has understandably waned.

He is so grey, there were pages and pages of debate over Trump on these forums, but Biden seems incapable of doing anything more than manage to wake up each day. Even to his supporters it's hard for them to to find anything grey man does that's noteworthy.

Mr. Putin chose his moment well with such an elderly and inconsequential man in the White House.

"Word shuffler"? I'd suggest getting someone who is awake to proof read your post before such criticism ;)

Reason Trump got in was tone deafness on the part of any alternative and the continued tone deafness of the Democrats probably opens the door for someone like that come next election.

Surely the smart move is to post battlefield updates spoofing your location as where the Russians are, so they shell their own positions...

Deep fake the Russian uniforms to ukrainian ones and Vlad's your uncle.

It will be interesting 25 years time just how much is faked in terms of counter intelligence.

Fairly ironic considering I’m not sure you’ve understood the term. Trump has the vocabulary of a child. Everything he says is a word salad, said with the eloquence you’ll find in the average tabloid.
I’d perhaps not hold that against him if it was intentional to attract folks to what he was saying, like how the language in a tabloid is intentionally dumbed down for the target audience. But nah, he’s just thick as mince.

I'd like to believe these types of frontline footage aren't staged where the women "fighters" are concerned but they're always too clean for somebody who has been stuck on the frontline for days under artillery barrages and counter offensives, not a spec of dirt on them

Pretty much the same with the Chechen TikTok brigade. Their uniforms and shoes are spotless.
