Well our troops are currently sat on the side lines watching so it’s working.

I thought the Russian troops weren't doing much.

Perhaps Biden is have a Truss, I mean turn. However I've not seen him say much other than what was obviously on the press office radar up to this point. Having the WH correct things or clarify things isn't good but then his age and international travel with jet lag is probably compounding the issue.

including potentially the whole system not even working if he did "press the button".
One thing that is often a source of some comedy on the nuclear topic is when Russian trolls are always straight to big up the countries super amazing unstoppable "dead hand" system that can nuke all the NATO targets by itself if Russia is attacked. The reality is it's a 1970s mainframe linked to sensor stations in the country that allow it to "detect" strikes via ground tremors and light anomalies, it then essentially faxes the Kremlin to ask if everything is okay and if they don't telephone the control room and tell the operatives to reset the system it then faxes the silos to tell the staff to start turning keys.

White House yet again having to correct what he's said, this man is the best America could offer for the job ???
That's not how the US presidential system works. First a group of rich and usually old democrats spend lots of money to try and convince other democrats they are the best democrat to run for president, while at the same time a groups of rich and usually old republicans spend lots of money to try and convince other republicans they are the best republican to run for president. The two who were most successful with their spending go on to the presidential election where they spend even more money to try and convince Americans that they are the best rich and usually old person to run the USA.

What do the Russians troops have to do with my post.

why do people insist calling it a 1970s mainframe - i would assume that it’s been upgraded otherwise you coul could cut the phone line to the silos or worse still hack it.

A Russian tabloid accidentally released the numbers 9,861 killed and 16,153 injured last week, so around 30,000 killed or injured is probably accurate. I was reading last week the hospitals in Belarus and Russia are filled with maimed soldiers. All this suffering for one man's ambition.

Newsweek said:
Ukraine Has Actually Gained Tanks During War While Russia Has Lost Hundreds

How generous of Russians to even out the hardware deficit. So there are reports suggesting that the Ukrainian army has captured so many Russian tanks now they have more then what they started with. Unbelievable if true.

"Accidentally"

Tanks seem to be pretty useless anyway especially in urban warfare, state of the art anti tank weapons are so easy to deploy from so many positions.

Well, because it's a mainframe system, built in the 1970s. I could be wrong but I believe it has satellite connections as well as cable links (otherwise a massive first strike could cut it off from the silos). And lastly hacking an old mainframe system of this type is practically impossible as mainframes are harder to hack than modern Windows/Linux servers/networks in the first place as you need to know how to use the proprietary O/S and be aware of security flaws (if they even exist) plus you would need to be able to connect to it which would require you to be at a terminal inside the control building (as it's external communications links are outgoing only).

60% failure rate lol. They better get checking their nukes sharpish

The state of the Russian military and what Putin claims to be precision targeting, they're more likely to start using a really large trebuchet to lob munitions.

Your average Ukrainian farmer now has two captured Russian tanks and an anti aircraft missile system to keep the birds off their crops.

Biden's non-diplomatic language is not doing any good, am i the only one who thinks so? He should realize this isnt a fight in the park and WH correcting his words afterwards is not doing us any good. Unless he wants to escalate things (before its de-escalation)

This retired former Commanding General of United States Army Europe doesn't agree

Tanks are still useful - but these days you need to combine them with anti-drone defences, dismounted infantry and the right tactics. They can easily become a sitting duck these days though if poorly utilised especially if driven unsupported into urban environments.
