Lotus Eletre - Hyper Electric SUV

It’s 5.1M long and frankly looks a mess. Urus EV6 love child.

Will be interesting to see if it stays Lotus only platform, but that 800V and charge speeds will probably make its way into other Geely products. Just not the polestar3 like a poster thought on the Emira thread! SPA2 will spawn XC90 & PS3.
This Lotus is a behemoth.

Loads more cars relevant to the UK could have a dedicated thread.

EDIT: oh carved by air is silly if they are yet to quote a Cd. Let’s hope the doors don’t suffer too much stone pecking with those open vents!

A few things I really like but overall feels like a swing and a miss to me. A more traditional dashboard just works, I know it is a prototype but I'm seriously bored of these vehicles where the infotainment implementation feels like someone went ooops at the last minute and just tacked something in and those cushion looking things on the top of the dash just don't work - they need to either be an inlaid feature or a hollow into the surface.

The external features individually look nice but the proportions just feel a bit off with it all put together to really nail the look - at least the overall styling and especially the rear aspect comes together a bit better aesthetically than the Nissan Ariya Awry though. (Though in terms of sheer sleekness it pulls it off better than a lot of the other offerings).

EDIT: I feel like the design principles have been taken too far - a few small areas where the lack of taking a more pragmatic and/or conventional approach undo the rest of it, at least for my personal tastes.

Welcome to 2012 !
I'd rather a separate screen than a built up dashboard purely there to surround the screen - brings better visibility from the lower windscreen.

My point was at least make it feel like it is designed into the vehicle - it doesn't need to be a fully built up surround. An expensive interior and then what looks like a tablet stuck in as an afterthought rather cheapens the effect.

Indeed.
Also, that one looks particularly poor for glare. Why no AG coating on these screens?

In respect to lack of AG it may be due to being a prototype - there are a few aspects of the demo vehicle only representative of the production car.

Not for me but hope it sells well like similar vehicles have so that Lotus is justified to continue making the cars we actually want like the Emira.

Emira won’t be made for too long though especially with the V6 as I don’t think it will meet the new rules which come into effect either in 2025 or 2027 more knowledgeable people here will know but Toyota don’t intend on changing the old Camry motor to make it pass regulations. So will only be the AMG motor then.

I'm sure you're right, I guess my point is even more generic than that, which is that 'sport' or 'performance' EVs for the masses probably aren't that profitable and so if we want them they will need to be propped up by what does currently make money in the market (SUVs). There's obviously no significant future in developing new internal combustion engines for Lotus, and other mass produced motors are likely to become more thin as time goes on, so I'm also sure Lotus will be planning an EV future for their sports cars that needs investment. I hope that is also accompanied by their engineering prowess and innovations, perhaps trickle-down from Evija etc. I'll be holding onto my Elise indefinitely, though!

I still think this is a development from the Geely Open Source SEA architecture as employed in the Zeekr, it supports all sorts of configs like 800v, triple motor etc, can see a company like Geely not sharing tech and knowledge between brands.

I like this from the rear and the side, the face is horrid, probably priced out of my budget but if this can do for Lotus what the Cayenne did for Porsche it is only a good thing.

They would have to create a hybrid in 2025 to keep selling it. I can foresee a hybrid A45 engine being available that may be suitable but the V6 is probably going to be dead.

They will have to do something to keep selling units, find it hard to believe the investment in development / tooling etc will have been paid off that soon.
