No defender of Hamilton but I wonder if he got caught out behind the Sainz/Ricciardo incident at the start, I assume those who made the big jumps on lap 1 (including Russell) were on the "other" side of the track and got past.

These cars were supposed to make things easier to pass. However as we're seeing, no DRS, no passes.

This phase is certainly a good example of why they still need DRS.

They can clearly follow well enough, the gaps between Tsunoda, Stroll, Ocon, Albon and Hamilton (and Ricciardo catching) show that - but nobody is making any headway in terms of actually making passes yet.

Same with Leclerc closing on Perez.

Problem is, with cars this close you’ll end up with the same if DRS is enabled… they’ll just be following each other with the same gap, just with the wing open :(
