The MiG-29 was introduced in 1982 and the Su-27 in 1985 (the latter being delayed as the USA had just introduced the F-15 and so the USSR chose to delay the Su-27 to make improvements to ensure it was more capable), they are roughly comparable to F-16 and F-15 fighters (of the same era) respectively, so while it's not the norm for the cheaper fighter jet to defeat the more expensive one it will often happen, especially in a close range dogfight where it can use it's agility advantage (this is why you see F-16s smoking F-15s/F-22s in dogfights at red flag but getting smashed in long range encounters). Ukraine's MiG-29s aren't fresh off the production line, they're fully upgraded and more comparable to the MiG-35 than the original MiG-29.

Not to take anything away from the Ukrainian pilot, he still got a kill against a plane that should have been better on paper, and that's sort of to be expected as Ukraine have been taking part in air exercises with NATO for years, their pilots are much better trained/experienced than Russia's.

NB: The reason I used the Su-27 and not the Su-35 above is because the Su-35 is just a variant of the Su-27 that the USSR built in the late 80's called the Su-27M. Russia had to stop producing them in the mid 90s as they couldn't afford to build them anymore, then when they brought them back in the late 2000s they renamed them Su-35 to make it seem like a new plane (and more appealing to export markets). They did similar things when they renamed the MiG-29KR to the MiG-35, and as I mentioned above when they renamed the T-72BU to the T-90.
When it comes to aircraft dogfights it’s more about the pilot than the aircraft 9 times out of 10, remember the time an F14 got a Kill of an F15 in a close range dogfight, and remember the until the F22 came into service the F15 was the best dogfighter in the world with no losses in combat.

Ukraine has started receiving Harpoon anti-ship missiles from Denmark and self-propelled howitzers from the US, Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov has said.

"The coastal defence of our country will not only be strengthened by Harpoon missiles – they will be used by trained Ukrainian teams," Reznikov wrote on his Facebook page.

Reznikov said the supplies of Harpoon missiles were the result of cooperation between several countries.

Zelensky says we are getting closer to the day where Ukraine is outmatching Russia for battlefield technology and in this regard he expects to hear very good news from allies next week.

This probably relates to the rumour that Biden will next week send American MLRS systems to Ukraine that allows Ukraine to drop clusters of bombs on targets 300km away allowing them to hit deep into Russia's supply lines

Vladimir Putin has reportedly been warned he has just three to years to live as Russian intelligence sources become increasingly worried about their ailing leader.

An FSB officer described the Russian president's condition as a 'severe form of rapidly progressing cancer', as speculation ramped up that Putin was suffering with some form of serious illness amid the invasion of Ukraine.

Well that is "reassuring":

The only thing we have come to learn is that Russians do the opposite of what they say!!

I suspect there will be a 'handling' of Putin into a non-executive position to save face and allow him to be classed as a hero of the people when he dies. The daily power is then managed out of the party as the next leader is groomed. The issue is that I think the party is seeing the impact of returning to Cold War economics as a step too far - it's a backward step without BRICS style economic boom.

Will take all news of Putins demise with a pinch of salt, but assuming there is truth to it and he doesn't stay in power much longer, I wonder how the world will view his actions and that of Russia in the years to come.

Even if he drops dead tomorrow I'm not sure Russia will immediately end the war, how much of this decision was really in his hands I wonder?

2 huge Greek flagged oil tankers, 9 Greek officers and phillipinos crew are taken hostage by the Iranians in the Persian Gulf. As a retaliation for confiscating a russian tanker filled with iranian oil last week off the coast of Naxos. Its getting global this conflict or is it just me?

Not sure his demise would actually be a good thing. Probably the best of a bad bunch looking at the other lot.

Like that old fossil posted here weeks ago, stood on his podium citing Putin being too soft on Ukraine and the West are worse than Hitler.

From Kharkiv to Odesa (basically east-south ukraine) is inhabited predominantly by russian populations (it is also visible on how these areas are voting for a pro russian government), and these people have suffered greatly in the last 8 years by nato & azov nazis.
People from these areas are celebrate the liberation Russian army as they enter in their towns and villages. While the majority of the population is welcoming the Russian liberation army the are ukrainian minoritys, that do not, and guess what, these minoritys are what the west media is shown to the sheeps.
Thouse ultra right wing elements you mention are deeply rooted in the ukrainian government and army, nothing to do with russia.
Well it's still Ukranian land not russian. If any of the region want to be Russian then they can **** off to Russia.

The point stands that Ukrain have the right to fight for their land, just like we would for ours.

Russia don't give a **** about the people, they want the resources and the ports.
