See the tweet below it from Reuters about Kherson being 'pro-Russian' ? Just wow. Someone needs a bloody slap at Reuters, as Russians are murdering people and stealing the grain.
BTW, I would think Kherson has more strategic importance due to potentially allowing exports of grain to the world.
Thats awful from the editor who approved that trash. It reads like Russian propaganda because it is.
They mention in the story that its a quote from TASS, the entire article has been written by TASS but its disgraceful that the editor would approve publishing.
Reuters has been oddly soft on Russia for awhile (allowing TASS not too long ago) and it's disturbing for what used to be a decent organisation. Kind of seems like they're doing what the BBC does by being 'impartial' with the objective truth being served up versus mad ravings.

Some good news on the sanctions front, Europe will cut 90% of oil imports from Russia by the end of the year. As much as I would like to see them cut immediately that was never going to be be realistic. By that time I'm expecting a recession to hit us which will tank oil prices in the medium term.
It's only good news if it doesn't result in higher oil prices. Otherwise, Russia will just sell it to China and India at higher prices than it was getting before the war and laugh its way to the bank.

So how will they quietly circumnavigate the problem, because, for sure that's exactly what they will slimily do whilst offering a facade of enduring financial and fuel traumas. We saw them during the vaccine crisis, nothing has changed. Not that I am obsessive about what Russia is doing, it was predictable, avoidable and we are where we are.

That is exactly what has/will happen.
Maybe in 5-10 years time we could see the benefits of it with Europe been a leader in green energy but there isn't enough joined up thinking for that.

Gas requires a lot of infrastructure to pump to other markets.
This should finally encourage moving away fossile fuels in a major way.
There are still far too few windmills, hydro storage etc. Yes, intermittent supplies will require a totally new smart grid and ways of thinking (even industrial user have to start timnig their usage of electricity when the wind blows etc.), but long-term not being dependent on despotic hydrocarbon countries is a major plus, even if we totally ignore climate change.

Easier said than done though, to get the oil into China would require them to build new pipe lines from eastern Siberia down through some difficult terrain. That's a 10 year project if lead by the Chinese and so far the Chinese haven't shown us any indication that they are willing to invest that much money into a country that’s terminal decline (in fact quite the opposite) and for a resource that the world is looking to move away from.

The first thing we should do is enact a law that those who say this are immediately turned to soylent green
I suspect as ever there will be a high correlation with Brexiteers (certainly all the ones I see who say this are) and expect the culling to be others, its always others with some folk
No need to cull people, (although good old mother nature is certainly not averse to that method when required). Simply make it financially ruinous to have more than (initially) two children, no artificial birth methods, and a near zero immigration policy to already developed countries. And please, how long will the whinnying over a vote that went the other way to a minority's wishes be ululated everywhere? Magnanimosity in defeat is a gentlemanly trait. Strive for it.

The literal point of green energy is to make this sustainable. Get the green stuff right and we have all the energy we need.
Which is the problem with Green Parties across the world: tiresome ignorance and the naturalist fallacy writ large. My wife is a member of the Grün party here, and I agree with her views, but I can't forgive politicians who advocated so hard against nuclear and GM while professing green values for their utter stupidity.

Makes me laugh sometimes - there has been a lot of pressure at work to go green - the latest one is a lot of hype about how we are changing to a lighting system which will be cheaper to run and lower impact on the environment... from my estimates it will take like 20-30 years for the cost savings from lower electricity cost to break even (partly due to the higher maintenance cost of the new system) and at least as long to make even on the environmental side when you factor everything in including disposing of the old system, etc. in reality the whole thing will probably be replaced again long before that.
Looks at thread title... wanders into 'green energy' debate....

News has really slowed down of late. The primary reddit thread is slow now as well. Really want to see what is going on in Kherson, and also Severodonetsk and hoping they aren't encircled yet.
