The "Top Gear", Season 24/25/26 thread

Looking forward to seeing the episode where they went crown victoria racing with cleetus.

Every time I see/hear someone mention Cleetus for some reason it makes me think of the NFS 3: Hot Pursuit tune Cetus 808 :s (
)

(And Romulus 3 is by far the best piece of music ever made for a racing game)

I dunno if it's because I'm becoming an old fart but Top Gear (and Grand Tour for that matter) doesn't interest me at all. Back in the old days when Clarkson could offend everyone and the adventures were real, it was interesting. Nowadays I just find it to be entertainment-by-numbers tosh. Some Youtube channels are considerably more entertaining, like Throttle House.

If you love cars then it's a no brainer really, I still love Top Gear and the trailer for the new series looks good! I highly recommend the Autotrader YouTube channel. Rory Reid presents it really well and the production and cinematography are top notch. One of my fave channels.

Depends if you feel that way about all of the content, or just some of it.

Chris harris is superb, can watch him for days. And when they get together for a group exercise, it's usually funny watching them take the **** out of each other. The bits I have no enthusiasm for are when Paddy or Fred play motoring journalist for the day and attempt to review cars. Those segments are usually a skip for me.

Top gear stopped doing proper reviews of cars more than 10 years ago, maybe 20 years. Its an entertainment program about cars

nope we usually get review / reviews dropped in with the so called entertainment this episode didnt get anything

Depends on how long the "special" segment is - even "old" Top Gear did the same, with "special" episodes interspersed within the rest of the season. Obviously they were trying to capitalise on the fact that they had gone back to being able to travel this season (rather than being confined to the UK because of Covid), hence the airport related advert etc.

I'll take that link with the mountain of disdain it deserves, purely for this quote?

It’s genuinely awful, isn’t it? Alas there’s no way of enhancing what used to be a magazine show about cars – by including women, say, or taking a responsible attitude to global warming

As @Greebo above said - It hasn't been a magazine show about cars for 20 years. It's an entertainment program about cars, that's now in a primetime slot on BBC One - it is never going to be a serious show just for petrolheads - it's family entertainment.

The fact the telegraph feel it has to have a woman in the cast, says all I need to know that they haven't got a clue.

Fair enough must be me getting OLD  , still some of the stuff can be fun watch, but mainly for the reviews and celeb around the track

It was ok but with how long it's ran and the Grand Tour there really isn't any new ideas left for either shows to do that doesn't feel like a rehash of what they've done in previous years.

Thought it was Ok, but as mentioned, at least have 15-20 minutes of car "reviews"? 1 hour of pretty much the same 3-split segment was a bit boring after awhile.

as commented, it's a general entertainment car programme , personally having either Sabine or Vicki immediately signals it is not just a slapstick/boys mag, giving wider appeal, and I'd remember to dvr/record it to fast forward to the good bits (fast forward on iplayer is a bit junk, unless you download for your favourite media player)
fast forward enables you to circumvent these cynical 3-split segments too, and avoid the dross.

Top gears not alone though - cooking programmes have themselves become entertainment programmes about cooking too (masterchef, bake-off ...)
