Sure you can want for that to happen but for anyone to expect it.....is ridiculous.

He didn't say he expected it though, you said it would be stupid for either side to stop shooting right now, it wouldn't, it would be quite a good idea for Russia to stop.

End of the day as the aggressor here, especially after the stuff their government are coming out with, no one is going to believe Russia is going to use any "peace" talks as anything other than an attempt to get Ukraine to lower their guard and stall any momentum Ukraine might have without an initiative from the Russian side first at the very least - so if they are going to talk about peace it is meaningless without action.

So we are back to what I said before.

No it wouldn't, it weakens their negotiating position and the same goes for Ukraine.

If the Russian soldiers just stopped shooting at the Ukrainians and the Ukrainians carried on shooting and killed the Russian soldiers, people would not say oh look the Russians wanted peace. People would claim the Russians were beaten.

The only way either side should stop is through talks, otherwise it makes you look weak or beaten.

******* Russian ********. I've just found out from my other half that her uncle has been killed on the front lines.

When the war started he rejoined the military as an officer (not sure what rank), he complained that his men didn't have right body armour and lacked equipment to fight at night (I believe he was job involved doing night patrols). To help we ended up buying him a high end night vision monocular which he was very happy with. He's the second person in her family to have killed in this war, she lost a cousin in 2014 as well.

I am sorry for your loss.

No, not really, Russia ought to remove its troops; that's what they should do. Ukraine isn't planning to invade Russia nor is it capable of doing so.

Having a ceasefire and sticking to it is going to come through talks and that is why I said.

You cannot expect the Russians to just stop shooting and walk out of the country from the goodness of their hearts, this is a war.
They have piled a hell of a lot of resources human/financially/militarily into this and they will want something in return.

Sure you can want for that to happen but for anyone to expect it.....is ridiculous.
Yet you expect Ukraine and the west to stop supplying weapons as it's resulting in unnecessary deaths....x

Go figure eh.

dowie no offense but your post doesn't really give a logical reason as to why Russia should remove its troops, it is more a you feel it is the right thing for them to do.

It's like that kid in school who missed lesson 1, but voices his view in every subsequent lesson?

Sorry to hear that he died a hero like all Ukranians fighting for freedom right now, such a tragic waste of life from both sides for one mans legacy.

Looks like Russia calling up dads army now

Yet they went in to capture Kiev and the whole of Ukraine....that's not winning.

Every time you quote me you repeatedly demonstrate your remarkable inability to comprehend what is wrote so I hold little hope in this.

You claim Russia went in to capture the whole of Ukraine, is Vladamir Putin your mums boyfriend ? how on earth would you know these secret unachievable plans of his.

You say that's not winning replying to a post that has the definition of winning in there.

The definition is right there ^^

It does not mean won it does not mean victory, it is a term that can describe the current situation ie captured territory in a war.

Here have a very pro Western source tell you.

Sky News

Is Russia now winning the war in Ukraine? Experts have their say

So is the war now heading in Russia's favour?

Sir Richard Barrons, a former head of Joint Forces Command, told Sky News: "I think in the short term that is so.

"Russia will feel it's sitting on now just a bit less than a quarter of Ukraine. It knows that Ukraine does not have the military capability to throw them out, and it will sense that there is some weariness in the world at bearing the consequences of this war."

Over the last week, Ukrainian forces have retreated from Severodonetsk - the largest remaining part of the Luhansk region that was under Kyiv's control. Luhansk is part of the Donbas.

Not really you are just attempting to deflect because you have zero comeback or any legs to stand on.

So explain why they attacked Kiev and tried for the Ukrainian government? Other than the biggest stupidest, costliest feint in all of military history...or asking the Ukrainian military to overthrow their own government, why state that if they just wanted to "help" Donbass??

See even your best comrade Putin has put your silly counter argument to bed.
